What do y'all think of the Tamiya scale 4x4s, like the Tundra, F-350, and the Hilux? How do they compare to the RC4WD stuff and others? They look more scale to me, but I haven't seen any of them first-hand. Also, are the Tundra, F-350, and Hilux the same basic chassis? I really don't care for the Tundra body, but I was wondering (because of the price difference) if there are any advantages to one or the other.

I have been seriously eyeballing them for a while, I almost pulled the trigger on the Tundra last week when Tower had them on sale. Could have got a Tundra for about $380 shipped, I was so close....

I want a scale 4x4, not a crawler. What would y'all recommend? I don't want to say that money is no object, but I am willing to lay down some coin for a good rig.

given the choice between starting with a rc4wd rig or a tamiya rig i would have to say the rc4wd if you are going for scale.

the bodies are different, but the chassis' are the same. the chassis is one of the things that kills the scaleness imo, i wish they had made something more like the old bruiser or new scx10. the tamiya chassis is just 2 straight c-channel rails. it gets covered up with the body, but still, not near as scale a chassis as a rc4wd or axial.

heres my hilift f350. its a total beast and i wouldnt trade it for anything, but it took alot to get it to this state.

I just got in the mail an axial scx10tr and it's out of this word cool looking. Comes with lights etc... The chassis looks so scale and real-like. I am really pumped I got it. I got it off of Tower with the Membership savings and was like $240 with free shipping. I have been looking at the Tamiya stuff and would love to get the Tundra but the prices are still up there and this one is not shabby at all. It sports the motto, "the most capable scale truck out of the box" and it shoooo isssss. You will not be dissappointed

its a waterproof otterbox i modded to house the electronics. supposedly watertight to 10'.

heres some body off pics before i put some rc4wd dino axles on it. custom bits include a german-made clocked motor with belt drive and raised tranny, solid delrin bumpers and side rails. switches in bed control the lights, power, and winch. traxxas ball-ends mounted to the leaf springs let it flex like crazy but not be sloppy. they kill a little bit of the scale look but they really free up the suspension.

been there, done that. i don't have the time to scratch build another crawler. i rather spend it building rc10's.

not to mention, it still cost money to build stuff yourself. money which i don't have to spend these days.
