LosiXXXMan - I didn't think it would be an easy fix. What does LW stand for? So, Triumph and Pro-X are drop-in, but both have some issues. I like the stock Ultima one better than the later ball diff. Thanks for the help.

I mentioned this earlier, but I don't think anyone saw it in that post...

Im aware that JRx2 arms will fit the front of the Ultima (hinge pin ream necessary). BUT...Do they widen the track out like the Andys arms and the Pro XL arms? Or do they retain the same track?

I saw a Turbo on ebay tonight, and its got the JRx2 Arms. It looks a little wider, but could just be the camera angle...

nope, same width.
RPM made wider arms (I think intended for the JRX-T = too wide for a buggy probably unless you narrow the bulkhead)

Legal width options are ultima pro XL front arms and Andy's for ultima (Not sure if they made some for the JRX-2 and ifso, whether those were wider than original)

Thanks Erik... I finally realized just how narrow the Ultima front end is tonight. I put it together using B3 caster and steering blocks, and duratrax evader wheels form my RC10. Now I could use wide GT axles to spread it out a little, but I still haven't decided yet. I'm leaning toward the RB5 conversion I think. I also threw the Nitro evader rear wheels (again from my RC10) on the Ultima. It almost seems too wide in the rear. is 9.875 the legal limit? If so, I'm right on it with that setup...

250 or 252 mm something.

Team CRP still sells the front axles with extra offset. Those widen the front track to the same width as andy's arms. They are 5mm so you can either use the original front rims and replace the 4X8 bearings by 5X8 flanged ones, or use traxxas, academy or tamiya front wheels with 5X10/11 bearings.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to go with RB5 axles/hubs/carriers up front. There are just SO many more options for wheels that way... take a look at the Ultra 7 wheel from HPI, it'd be modern 2.2but is kind of reminiscent of the original Ultima Pro wheel.. And it comes in white, orange, black, and yellow. Tower says they're nylon, so whites would be dyeable too.

I'm trying to pick a body for this thing now also. I dont care too much for the Ultima body, so to respect her vintage character, I was thinking the Optima Pro from TBG. I also like the Optima Mid Custom Special, Schumacher Cat 2000, and JRX2?? (Might should save the X2 for when I build a Losi though 8) ).

My XXcr looks pretty good, but I don;t think a repop exists for it..Does ot look too Modern though??

If you have access to optima parts you can do this:

optima, optima-mid, lazer are all the same, TF5-stallion parts are a bit different dimension wise but will do the trick perfectly too. For axle you can use the originals and press-fit hex or M-chassis axles with crosspin for newer hexes.

For wheels: I like to use the new style Lazer Z5 front rims with the inner rib cut off. RB5 fronts will work to and give more width.

Hey Erik!

I remember those options that you have used, and I've kind if watched ebay for some optima/lazer/tf* hubs and blocks, but just haven't seen much. Doing the RB5 parts, also allows for easy replacement if needed.

I think the the kyosho mesh/bbs style 2.2s would look cool as well. (Again cutting off the inner rib for the front.) HPI makes some too (super nitro)...stars and mesh..

So DOES the RB5 option gain some width up front? The Optima/Lazer hubs look to give some extra width, which I desperately need, until I can get a set of the wide arms!

Yes both the RB5 and TF5 will bring the wheels out quite a bit compared to the original. Just a pitty new kyosho parts are so expensive :(
The increase in width is so much that you may want to do that first; before deciding on the wheels actually.

hey Erik-

I had some TA01 knuckles, carriers, axles and bearings sitting here so I tried that out.. Imagine this, it measures out to 9.875" axle end to axle end! Right at the legal limit. The only thing is that they are so CHUNKY, that I'd have to drill a new upper link hole in the shock tower nearly halfway up the tower to keep the upper link parallel to the arm :( . I may go ahead and do it, and order up wheels, to get her running now. Upgrade to the RB5 stuff later... IDK, its actuall run-able now, I have the duratrax wheels on it...

Glad I got you trying. I do like the evader option: quite a few colors for those wheels available too. Is it really that narrow with those? (I'm no good with imperial dimensions).

The ultra 7 wheels look like they would not make a great pair: the rears look like they have way too litlle offset for the ultima. Check out tower hobbies for the duratrax maximum buggy wheels: should be perfect when you got a 12mm hex upfront

So, is 9.875 what we are shooting for? :)

I measured my Ultima with Andy's arms and RB5 front carriers/axles. It's 9.8125 ( 9 & 13/16) inches from axle end to axle end.
