yup i guess they are hard anodized, it should last longer than the standard one i guess, another cheaper alternative is to use the ultima's plastic one

It might not necessarily be cheaper because you'll need a different shaft drilled for a cross-pin as well as the plastic gear.
The hard-anodized final pinion should last a long time for you.

in the process of doing up my belt optima for bashing at the track, I decided to try ultima's plastic final pinion. here's some pics of it, it works and will need an E clip to secure the shaft. the metal plates are very used n somewhat rusty, but I think I'll just leave it as it is since it's gonna be bashed at the track and i'm lazy to polish them

I've heard about that mod but never seen it done. I wonder how it holds up to wear 'n' tear?

I'll update on the durability of this mod after some track time, I hope to finish it soon and hit the track. The belt does need some silicon oil to soften it a little.

The strange thing is that one would expect hardened steel--or even the aluminum gear--to be more durable than plastic, but plastic-on-plastic theoretically suggests less wear than plastic-on-aluminum. Looking forward to your results.

ok decided to give it a quick sand down to give it a little shine, then took this belt optima out for a test run to check for fault, using lehner 4200 motor on 15t pinion, it still wheelie under hard acceleration. it's now ready for the track

will report back on gear durability in another week or 2 once I have the chance to hit the track.

That's a very nice collection, kaz_z. My own collection will be limited to 3 Optimas, but all very different and none even close to box-art. That Salute looks great!

Thanks Marc

anyway I'll be hitting the track tmr with my optima with the belt chassis and report on the durability of the ultima final pinion, I just hope the weather is good.
