Great looking project... i love those ComCom/Fibrelyte Carbon Tubs.... that diff came out great... you can't beat good old WD40 & Washing up liquid combined with some elbow grease for cleaning old dirty & greasy R/C car bits! P.S; did you hone down the diff washers to get rid of the groove before the re-build?

On the subject of the bulkhead caps.... keep an eye on ebay, I've seen a few go through quite recently - even one NIP set! I got lucky with the rear one I brought, I brought it through ebay... but I think it came from Jose (Mamadoesn'tletme), its in great condition & came out nice & white after a Peroxide bath & for some reason I got it for a bargain price!..... So I guess the moral of the story is to keep looking - they are not that rare!

Thanks for the nice comments! I wasn't too keen on honing down these diff rings, and as the other side was in perfect shape, I simply flipped them over, same with the thrust ball assembly. Both diffs are as smooth as they would be when new.

I am still wondering if there is/was a connection at all between COMCOM (German based company I think) and Hansell Composites. I don't think Hansell ever made a Yokie or Lazer tub, all the ones I have seen were branded COMCOM. I have a mint COMCOM RC10 tub I used to build my crazy MIP 4-10 Legend with Tecna's and it doesn't look like a Fybre-Lite one, the COMCOM tubs are at least 3 times thinner and they always used the twill leave design, at least from all the ones I've been able to look at. On top, there are slight differences in the general shape too.

Regarding the bulkheads, I of course saw the NIP ones that sold recently, but they went a bit above the roof for my wallet. Maybe next time. I've also learned in 6+ years of collecting these vintage "rides" (hey are you reading this Coelacanth"? ) that patience always pays off and I almost always ended with what I was looking for at some point.

Progress will be posted soon, I am really anxious to see this one finished now that I've started.

I love COMCOM tubs

I was always under the impression that Fybrelyte/Hansell made the tubs for COMCOM. It would be interesting to find one way or the other.

Well still undecided, but I think I would prefer white ones. Let's wait and see, they will come to me sooner or later anyway

I will send an email to Fybre-Lite later on today to try to find out if there was any link between the two companies and will report the result here afterwards. What makes me wondering as well is that the two shock towers that were on this car have a specific design that Fybre-Lite is not offering, nor any other company. The roller was purchased in Germany, probably by a COMCOM sponsored driver.

I'm pretty sure COMCOM was part of Fibrelyte or at least that Fibrelyte made the parts for COMCOM..... when I was communicating alot with Stephen at Fibrelyte (when they made the chassis for my YZ-10) he showed me various old photos of similar parts that they had made in the past... most had COMCOM header cards - He also described the connection between the companies.... i've been trying to dig through my old e'mails to find exactly what he said.

This was one of the images Martin (Hansell) sent to me - note the COMCOM sticker on the side of the Traxxas... also the tub chassis shownn looks to be a YZ-10 one? Back then Fibrelyte used to use a diagonal more open weave carbon.

Mmmmmmmmmh I would love to see more pics of that catalogue if you have them at hand? Yes that looks to be a carbon tub on a '91 YZ-10? Looks like I don't really need to send them an email then, but if you also find back your email with full explanation, that would be splendid! Cheers for posting the scan!

I'm afraid that was the only page of the catalogue that Martin emailed to me ... I also cannot find the email with the explaination with regard to the relationship with COMCOM, i'm beginning to think that I read it elsewhere (probably on this forum)? It might still be worth sending that e'mail - maybe they could send you an old catalogue complete?

I think the Yokomo shown in my image was based on a 94 YZ-10 - the rear wishbones appear to be the later swept type?

The email from Martin which had the image attached was mostly 'ramblings' of nostagia describing how he visited the 93 Worlds held in Basildon & sold lots of parts... also that he used to make alot of parts for Craig Drescher's Yokomos & RC10s, until he became fully sponsored & had to run standard/factory Associated/Yokomo parts, he also says that Fibrelyte made the wings on the three buggies shown in the image, but rather than being flat carbon, they had proper aerofoil profiles...... one of those for your MIP legend car would be super sweet!

Yup it might even be me that contacted them at the time and reported the learnings here, probably one of my brain farts... I will look into the relevant posts...
I noticed these awesome wings too and wonder if they ever went to (small) production. Maybe they still have the molds? Thay look super nice indeed but I have a soft spot for the Tecancraft aerofoil ones Oh and you're right about the arms, and it's not a Pavidis edition

They are readily available from Fybre-Lite, I actually almost bought one, but they're quite expensive and the one I have here is an original COMCOM one that has a blue tint and is in really good shape as opposed to the shock towers that needed to be replaced to my taste. Any progress on your 93 tub otherwise?

yes mate i have pondered over part's on there website many time's, i have blue tint battery strap's but this chassis has it's own mount's as per your example. found the correct pirelli belt's which was just luck and i'm tossing up between lrp white rim's also but i prefer the black keil still so far. currently running traxxas hard body shock's and a suzuki motor/layshaft mount your's will be a winner as usual david

Did the shocks yesterday. The ones that were on the car were a bit too much used to my taste, especially the front ones, so with another set of lightly used rear ones, I was able to build 4 correct ones. Sourced the original springs on a donor car and polished them together with the bodies. Brand new nylon parts to boot!
