Great, I'd like to do the HPI rear chassis brace. I might have one on an older car. I'll look thru some box's this week...

OK, I took the advice from littleVETTE and lighten up the chassis by removing material directly underneath where the Lipo's would nest.

I also modeled up an Associated front bumper and body posts to do a fit check.

As always, please feel free to comment...

very nice rooster. did you mill out the area, or did you just cut out the x pattern in the chassis? because i still see the lipo craddles.

Since the original plan was to fabricate the chassis out of 2.5mm carbon graphite, the plan is just to router out the material in specific areas to reduce weight on the chassis. The cradles are separate stand alone parts, the plan is to sandwich them between the chassis and the Associated posts. If I were going to fab this chassis out of aluminum plate, like 8th scale cars, I would definitely mill out pockets for the Lipo's, thus eliminating the need for the cradles, as well as unusable areas around the chassis to save weight.

i'm curious to what you have up your sleeve for the front suspension.

This past weekend at RCX I met a gentlemen from Associated and chatted up mostly pan car stuff. Don mentioned that Hyperdrive had in fact developed front bulkheads that enabled one to utilize the R5 front suspension on the older Associated pan cars that used the 8-32 hardware. On Monday I contacted the good people at Hyperdrive and they confirmed that they were available and they pointed me to a local distributor. I still loyal to Associated's dynamic front suspension, but with the adjust-ability of the newer R5 suspension, you can't beat it...

I finally got a chance to assemble a 10L with a R5 front suspension.

As a front brace, I ended up using one from a RC10L2, it fit with out any modification.

I completed the build with HPI components that had purchased throughout last year.

Incredible work!

Do you use this one or is it just a shelf queen?

If you use it i would like to read something how the car handles...

Thanks in advance:

I ended up building another 10R5 front end and installing on a older RC10L, instead of a graphite version, but a G-10 glass version. Surprising the car handled very well and easy kept up with the newer pan cars. I did have to purchase shims and dial in the front end as if it was a newer 10R5 car.

After several attempts, I was able to tweak the front end enough so I was able to be very competitive with the local racers.

One of the local racers saw what I did and installed a similar kit on a RC10L2 and after shimming was also able to compete with the newer cars.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info.

Nice to see that our beloved are still competitive if the driver is :-)
Is this 235 or round 200 width ? Would you share the drawings for this Chassis to?

How thick is the G-10?

Rc12l has a lot of similar parts to the 10L, like the front end, bulkheads, king pins. You could get a rc12l roller for parts if you can't find a 10l.
I recommend downloading the RC12l-RC12L3 manual and see what parts number are the same as RC10L.
