Thanks for posting that, Mark.... I was wondering what something I've had for years was.... turns out to be a Samurai bit, the white gear housing bit with the dog bone outdrives and the red plastic at either end, lower middle in that pic. Ooh, and those arms with the long bit of wire hanging off them as well.... I wonder if I have thrown them away yet???

Kudos on the cleanup!

Alex

No problem Alex.

I must say I will found it hard to know what it is too if i hadn't pulled one apart.

A very odd looking diff and arm with a torsion bar..

back when i was full-on into into the buggies i really liked getting something that had some use/history to it. not the clapped out stocker rc10s, but more the retired race rigs that were handed down and then abused.

i kinda looked at it as rescuing a rig that would otherwise end up being thrown out or whatever.

this by far is my favorite rescue. when i got it, it had about 20 darn coats of black krylon over the entire thing, the shocks were stuck, etc.
in the ebay listing it looked like a completely trashed pos, but i knew what it was and luckily nobody else did. got it for pretty cheap iirc.
teardown and soak in some super clean, and some time, and imho it cleaned it up pretty well.

If I've bought all of one or two "new" rc's so far that's about it. Otherwise, I buy all the cheap goldpans I can and combine them to make one or two good ones. As for the rest of my collection, my old Tamiya Mudblaster has been crossed with my Kyosho USA-1 monster truck quite a bit (too bad it still broke and went down with a crapped out tranny). I've even crossed a slash, a B2, a goldpan, a Tamiya Baja King and a Tamiya Mudblster together to create some form of a Traxxas E-Revo clone. That one kind of fell apart before blowing up (which was a relief) :D

I couldn't agree more...http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=12952

I think making something out of a bunch of nothing is a blast!

To answer the thread title, YES I am happy with junk!

My brand new Traxxas Slash is fun and reliable, but unless it's broken and I am fixing it, it seems boring to me now...
