Done a little more over the past few days:
I have settled on this saddle cell location, I used the Schumacher Supastox battery cradle (£5) and Predator battery posts and a home made carbon strap.
Gearbox and tower on all ok and the wing mounts on with new rubber bands!
So next up are shocks on the rear, wheels fitted, shell to be cut out and of to have a retro paint scheme.
Then the car will be off to Ralls Racing HQ for the rest of the electric install and a shake down test, can't wait to see it go!

Can I offer some advice?
Ditch the roller drive shafts. They are some sweet bling but I am not sure how they will hold up racing. The plastic shafts are a dime a dozen and much more durable IMO. The plastic bits on those rollers are as rare as rocking horse s*** and shear off easily.

Yeah, send em to me
I have run these shafts on all of my vintage Schuey racers and have only ever busted one end. They are a little brittle though.

Ok thanks for the info guys!
Shame as they look cool but as its a racer we want her to be strong and reliable.
I'll put these on the shelf queen version......

Shocks on the rear now, plastic drive shafts in too as these are stronger than the roller shafts I had fitted.
I had to use Schmucher long ball joints on the rear shocks to get the right droop
Added some more purple washers, got to love the bling! Lol

the cable that links the cells: is that something you made? Or can it be bought somewhere?

Thanks guys!
Really pleased with the way it's turned out! Let's hope it goes as quick on track as it looks!
I made up the link wire, just 2 x 4mm gold connectors and heat shrink over the top to cover the solder joint

It's finished!
Cut out the Penguin RC Cougar 2 shell and added a HB Rear Wing, bit big for the retro look but will be good for some downforce!
It's ready to go off to Ralls Racing HQ for the Esc, Motor and RX install and some race rubber to be added!
One last job is to adapt a gear cover on to it, std Cougar won't fit, tried a B4 one and that's too narrow, any ideas?? Losi XXX?
Final pics for now:

The old lady looks 20 yrs younger
Ha- C2 Works gear covers are as rare as hens' teeth

Must you run one, otherwise it'll be illegal, or is it just for the sake of running a gear cover? I'm not sure what can be adapted, really...

Good luck!
Paul

Thanks Lonestar!
Yes I have heard Cougar 2 works gear covers are a rare thing! Yes it'll have to have one fitted to be legal and keep the marshalls fingers safe !
The losi xxx one looks quite big so I'll try one out on it and report back

I keep thinking about getting my new works gearcover repro'd, but it's likely to be damaged in the mold making process i'm told..

I think if you did this you'd be a lot of forum members' new BFF of the month (me included)
I think the "damage" risk is higher for bigger lexan bits... the small stuff shouldn't be harmed by the master's weight. Maybe Jay can shed some light on this?

If you can do a mold out of plaster of paris from it I have been told you could pull off about 10 from this in a vac former just needs an air hole through it so the lexan pulls down tight.
I think this would be a popular item if someone made them up.

Might be worth an e'mail to the guy that does the Penguin shells? I'd be willing to sacrafice the one on my Works - but unfortunately its not in that great a shape - especially the back part of the gear cover which is superglued to the motor mount & likely to get destroyed when I remove it, certainly using a new original would be best.
OZ based RC10talk member 'Bugle' apparently did reproductions of the Works Lexan gear cover.... he hasn't been on here for a long while, but it might be worth shooting him a PM?
I'd certainly be interested in a re-produced part if one was to be made
