Build it, paint it box art, put some Tamiya wheels and tires on it, run it once, then shelve it.
I had one when I was 13 in 1989, it was super fun!
A friend got an Avante as a Birthday present and was talking all kinds of smack of how he was going to drag my ass.
By the time he gets it built and comes over, my Le Mans 240ST's brushes were dust and the only other motor I had was a plain old Tamiya 540 from my Blackfoot.
I bolted it in and...still beat his Avante!
Man, he was not a happy boy!

A month later I was zooming it up and down the road when the battery dumped and some idiot ran it over, on purpose, in a car!
The front end needed so many parts and a new chassis, so I traded it for another car.

When I got back into RC as an adult, I saw people restoring vintage cars.
I went out and bought a clapped out Turbo Ultima and restored it to as new.
Never did run it, it just sits on my shelf, perfect forever.
That's my Turbo Ultima story.

That's a great story and an amazing looking TU. I'm curious about the wheels; were they NIB, survivors or did you restore them yourself? I have a set that are need of some TLC so I'm looking for some advice. thanks

The wheels were bought new in packet, perfect. I can't remember what I paid for them, but it was well under $100.
The new chassis only cost $40 off eBay! This restoration was done over 10 years ago, the prices reflect that, I think.

A-I think I've hijacked this thread, my apologies to the OP.
B-I restored that car over 10 years ago and have much nicer vintage restorations than that.
I thought JRX2s were just silly fun looking with that 5 link rear, so I bought one and restored it.
Then I needed a JRXT to go with it.
That snowballed into owning and restoring every Losi car, truck and touring car (Street Weapon IWCE) from the JRX2 and finishing up with the end of the XX series, with a XXX Kinwald and a XXX BK2 thrown in 'cause I love Brian and his cars.
