Coelacanth wrote:I was slow to switch over to LiPo too, so I can understand the hesitation. And guys, it's not quite accurate to simply suggest "buy a few LiPos at $20 a crack". No, it ain't that simple.

-You need to also buy a charger capable of balancing LiPo batteries;

-You need to possibly buy an ESC (or multiple ESC's if you have several cars) that is LiPo-compatible (i.e. have the voltage cut-off function) or purchase an extra part that does the same thing for non-compatible ESC's;

-A LiPo charging diaper might be a good idea too, to protect from oopsies as indicated above;

-You may need to re-solder updated connectors on your cars, if you were running Tamiya-style connectors.

I'm glad I eventually made the move to LiPo, but it *isn't* a simple, cheap matter of just buying cheap LiPo batteries. Just my 2ยข having gone through that process already.
thanks for suming up what i was thinking.. ive got about 20 or so cars i run(alot more sit on shelf 8) ) so it is a big deal.. i just hope the 2 duratrax 3000 packs (only $40)i just bought are better then my about 10 year old 3300 race packs.. just trying to have some fun with my mild brushless b4 t4 and sc10 at the local track (crispy criters raceway nj) im not racing..
just so everyone knows im not saying no to lipos 4 ever.. i just am not going to store them in my small place . i may get 1 or 2 and have my friend store them where he stores his then he can charge it for me on his lipo charger.

If you ever consider switching to LiPo's, a cheap US surplus ammo box makes for a perfectly safe storage case! :wink:

this is true i have a friend that does this and stores it in his garage..
its so funny everyone is just trying to protect the house from burninig down ..the amount of smoke damage from a lipo problem would be such a pain and bad for your health.. the cost is too much now anyway like Coelacanth said there is alot of stuff to do its not just buy a lipo.. i have all my stuff set up for nimh . besides this is my cheap hobby(not that its really that cheap)and id like to keep it that way
