I was just reading this and remembered a conversion I did as a kid. I had an old Radio Shack rc buggy, think it took 6AA batteries which I had long outgrown. I also had a Tamiya King Cab with a broken chassis.
So I decided to put the trans, rear suspension, motor, esc, rx/tx/servo into the 1/18th scale toy... Very McGyver, involved 4 random screws, 4 zipties, some paper clips and rubber bands.
Did crazy wheelies and well.... it was more about fun than handling...

lol... wish I had some pics...

Ok here are some updated picts. I made a mistake with the shock tower mount position.. I spent a few hours flipping it around, using the tower in front then in back.. and finally came up with a solution that fits.
For wheels, I am going to use the re-release wild ones.. I think they look pretty nice and close to originals.
I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a few small little items. Im missing the following
1. SC-30 body support
2. Fitting plate : Step shaped piece the secures battery lid
3. Battery door support pin
If you have spare ones of these, please let me know.
Thank you

I know. It's more time consuming. I will have to drive to my friends house which is an hour away and use his work shop. I won't be able to do that for weeks..

Nice Raman!
Shouldn’t you mount the rear shocks in front of the shock-tower?

I think it's possible, but due to the large diameter of those shock caps, the amount of spacers needed to mount it in front would push the shock tops too far forward and you'd have a pretty big shock angle. The greater the angle, the more likely it will cause binding with shock compression.
The shocks aren't mounted in an ideal position as it is, but it's probably better than if mounted in front of the towers.

The shocks will not work in front. I tried it out, the angle becomes too extreme. The shock tower has posed to be the most challenging part of this project. This is the best I could come up with, without having to design a new mount, that somehow attaches the tower to actual gear box like the original

Can you use the stock dogbones? Or are you going to try something else?

I can use the stock dog bones. I used to have a tomahawk where I used the same frog axles. I can't however remember what I used to fill the gap of the space.
Im trying to use some sort of CVD. However I need a CVD that has a longer axle shaft. So i may end up using the Frog Hop Up CVD.. although the axle is again too long. I may end up machining it down.
