Ooooooo - What do you guys think MINT means...

Royal Mint... ie. in as good as condition as a new coin...

I'm fine with that...

Of course, do the people using the term - know what it means....

Just an opinion..!

And Vintage... I may be wrong, but with Motorcycles, I believe it's universally accepted that vintage refers to pre ww2...

Devils advocate - hell yeah...

vintage = vint age, ie: the age of the wine. This is usually taken to refer to the year of the grapes. Connoisseurs research the weather conditions for certain grapes that develop into premium vintage wines.

Now, I know the English language is bastardized already in meanings, and vintage has an informal meaning usually associated with something that is not quite antique (antique being older than 100 years). It just doesn't appear to me that a worn out, heavily used, discolored, abused part meets the definition of "excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic".

I don't use it to search because it is more than likely used as an adjective to describe something that couldn't sell to someone who knows what they are buying.

"LIKE RC10, blah, blah, blah"

I don't care much for the vintage tag because I remember buying it when it was cutting edge. :(

For sale: ANCIENT, PRE-HISTORIC, FOSSILIZED RC-10. This was raced amidst the dinosaurs back in the 1980s and then bashed by son A in the 1990s. Ended up in a ditch, from which we've just excavated it. Includes toy Brontosaurus for display settings. Both are still caked in vintage soil.

Actually, I pretty much hate everything these days. I guess I'm just getting old... "get off my lawn!".
I'm always being told that I'm a very negative/pessimistic person in real life. I've found that people who are always happy are generally not overly intelligent. Like the saying goes "ignorance is bliss." Geniuses are always miserable bastards.

Well it's human nature to complain just like you're complaining about others complaining. :P Unfortunately there is no alternative to eBay. They've got a monopoly. Even though it has gone way downhill in recent years, there is still no better way to find all of this stuff.

On the subject of things like the term "vintage" it started out being used in the R/C auctions properly and then it spiraled out of control. Now seemingly every auction includes the word vintage no matter what it is. Also always take the described condition with a grain of salt. Nobody wants to classify what they are trying to get top dollar for as a piece of crap, and what one persons idea of excellent or mint condition might not be the same as another's. Study the pictures and decide for yourself. If the auction doesn't include many large and clear pictures, simply move on if you don't want to take the chance.

Perhaps they should adopt some of the BMX terminology to keep you happy: "Mid School", "Old School". Maybe for the gold pans "Vintage Old Bastard" :D

I have nothing against the SITE (I am a Top Seller with a store front - Cactus Flower Limiteds). I'm just tired of the descripters being improperly used.

I can find at least one positive in it... At least when you use the word "Vintage" in the search like "Vintage RC10" it weeds out only RC10's... If you search for just "RC10" you get not only the RC10 & T, but also B2-B3-B4-B44-T2-T3-T4 items plus some random sprinkling of baseball cards. That is a lot of pages of stuff.

And Gold Pan... Or Gold Tub... Hell, that was a well used term BITD. Whats funny is that we didn't call RC10's - Edinger or Cadillacs. We did however know a Worlds Car, I think most people knew a worlds car as the RPM Worlds car.. And when the AE WC came out, it took the place of that term and then people referred the RPM WC as "The RPM Car" At least anyone from the racing world anyway. That is how I remember it. :)

The overused names are everywhere, from RC to model trains. Unfortunatly its a good way to find stuff when you do need to weed out the new stuff. I think "Rare" is the most over used word on ebay. Most stuff is far from Rare, unless its a mint early RC10 sealed in a perfect box. While it does get tiresome, I dont let it get to me. Some of the absurd shipping prices is way more annoying! Mike

whats really scary is ive started seeing people call the black plastic rtr traxxas cars vintage. traxxas rustler is not vintage, just cause it has an msc does not mean its a time capsule into some long forgotten era in rc.

"Survivor" is another that really digs at me....

So many definitions of what an Antique is and what Vintage is.
