Even the owners are fairly knowledgable.
There is a new hobby shop that is very close to my house (Not a hobbytown)... Not so much! Unless you are into dungeons and dragons. If that is the case, they have it in stock, maybe even several of everything. I went there once, walked around the store three times looking at stuff, not once did the guy say anything to me. He was busy working on the most hurting TC3 I have ever seen. (Yes TC3, I know right?) On a pit table set up in the middle of the store that had the most crap all over it I have ever seen. He also had a couch set up in the middle of the store with a sheet thrown over it. Not sure if it was his bed, or it was an old couch he found and set it up inside for his customers... All I knew was I was not going to sit on it. There was also a kid there with a TMaxx. He did not have a pit table, but he used the floor no sweat. TMaxx parts all over the floor. Sooo I guess there is one place here that is bad.

Well as far as Hobby Town they are discontinuing carrying anything associated. RVA hobbies is great but they are a startup store and have super staff, small parts section but are opening in a new location with indoor carpet track. they are going to run oval and road course 1/10 1/12 and mini. Now i have a reason to buy 1/12 pan car

OK mental note I can no longer complain about my LHS. They are actually pretty good although a touch more expensive than other sources. They have a couple cylinders full of multicolored antenna tubes, and a good selection of paint. If you're in the Rochester, NY area, you already know most of our LHS are gone, RIP Hobby House (the Charlie days). Most of them dissapeared when Kodak and Xerox cut everybody's jobs.
Dan's Crafts and things carries RC, slots, models, trains, planes. crafts, rockets, even wedding supplies. They do alright and they can fix what they sell. Last time I was in there they had a Losi 5T on the counter and they let me fly a mini heli.
Performance Hobbies is nice too, great selection but a bit too far for me
