I agree 100%. The stampede is great to start out with, but as you start to get into it, there are no real classes for it to enter. Go with the xl5 and a brushed system with some really nice tires. The fastest guys at my track can drive a brick of a slash as fast as I can drive a buggy. Sometimes we put too much importance on upgrading the truck instead of driving the truck well.

I actually tried running this during parctice last week......wow! I sucked....
Didn't help that I had the big tires on it.... understeer like crazy and then spinning out under throttle. After a bit I got used to it, but I sure remembered in a hurry why I stopped racing it, as it's quite the handful.
It's just more of a backyard basher, plain and simple.
Having said that.... I may yet put the rustler tires on it next time around.

Never took any pics or vid of it on the track. I have some vids of my other M/T's on the track, but they changed the lay-out since then.
I did put a new body on the pede' as I had this midnight pumpkin body sittin' around.
(I didn't run it like this on the track though)

Ok so this is probably just good for a laugh but here is my son's truck a few weeks ago in the kids/novice class at our local track. Poor novice drivers never knew what hit them

He has the green truck:

I used to run the old tractor style tires, the newer Talon tires are much better.
My son's truck has older Pro Line Road Hawg tires, wide and short sidewall, they look so much smaller than his "outdoor" tires. The newer Pro Line Road Rage tires look pretty good too.

That was pretty funny, he definitely gave the marshals a good work out and looked like he had a lot of fun doing it.
I actually just sold this stampede. Guy I know wanted it for his son, who is only 4...... so needless to say, he asked me to put the VXL in training mode before I shipped it. I hope they have a lot of fun with it, I know I have over the years we owned this one.
