I will definitely be getting one of these they look great!

Not saying I won't get one as it was my first car I'm sure I will, just saying for the prices all the re-re decals suck.

What's the deal with calling it a "novafox"? If I bought one there's no way I'd be puting those decals on! Just looks wrong.

I believe the word Nova originate from New, therefore "New Fox."

doesn't nova mean "no go" in spanish? i think that's why chevy's nova never sold well in spanish speaking countries.

ha! all these years i've been a sucker.

I got an original Fox as a Christmas special package deal for $200 in 1988. After owning a used Hunter (and spending more than the purchase price trying to keep the gears from stripping and MSC from frying) the Fox was a dream to build and run.

An interesting point with mine, it came with a Technituned motor. I don't know why but I wasn't going to complain! Did anyone else get a Fox kit with a Technituned motor? Was mine a fluke?

I ended up racing it in 2wd 540 (had to take out the Technituned motor) and it held it's own against some of the RC10/Jrx2/Ultimas. I cut out most of the top cover on the chassis so it would be easier to do crystal changes etc. That was the main mod apart from CAT tyres and adjustable upper arms/links. Eventually got an Ultima Pro to go with my Optima Mid SE that I was racing in 4wd stock and the Fox was sold off.

I have great memories of my Fox. I think I will have to have one, no matter what they have renamed it.

My memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall seeing a Tamiya kit or two at the lhs with a sticker on it saying it had an upgraded motor. Maybe kind of like how some kits now come with tshirts or cleaning brushes or whatever? Sometimes ball bearings too for limited runs.

Thats very interesting, did the motor come in seperate packaging or was it included in the blister packaging?

Yes CAT tyres were a must back then, I even fitted them to the front of my original as seen in this old pic with my first trophy for RC racing (and my Big Bear Truck LOL)

Yes, it came in the blister packaging where the normal 540 motor would be packed.

The main thing that was special about it at the shop was the price. $200 for a Fox package deal was around $100-150 off the normal price. There were 3 shops in Sydney (Australia) doing the deal at the time. They were doing Wild Ones at the same price too.

According to an article written in Dirt & Track magazine, there were 1000's of Foxes sold during that special.

I also have fond memories off the Fox. I'm pretty sure here in Holland they didn't sell the upgraded kit with the technituned motor. The only problem with the Fox was it's rear axles (especially with the technituned ). They didn't last long and were quit expensive.... I did the Fox away and bought a Big WIG. I still have that car today.

I stripped out 2 rear axles before I upgraded to the Thorp Dirt Burners dog bones. Then I added the ball diff. I ran a Trinity Monster Stock motor and JRX2 springs on mine. That simple change made a world of a difference in handling.
