jason i like youre slot car style idea here is my suggestion for eliminating the loop and make all the turns banked like the slot car track. seeing how you are limited for width you should make use of the longer angled straights to keep the speeds up and avoid slow speed tight corners to avoid pileups and keep things flowing. i also like losi's idea of incorperating the oval, you know id be there for that.

Lets just assume you have a buddy with a tractor that owes you, your neighbor is super mellow, the water has places to run in the off season..
And what the eff is a removable wall ride you ask...
Not very vintage I know, but I can't take the time to use PAINT taking a few likely unrealistic liberties

Since you are into dirt oval, I think you should do a dirt oval outside loop, then have a section where you enter the infield have some switchbacks, and then exit back onto the oval. Best of both worlds. That's how the first track i was introduced to had their layout - when I started checking out races. (A few years before i could participate.)

an oval would've been the natural choice for me. unfortunately, and it's hard to see it the pic, but my yard has quite a pitch to it. i would have to dig down pretty far on the alley end to be able to level the track. i don't want to change the landscape so to speak, i just want to remove some grass to create a track.

If you overshoot (on the straightaway) you're gonna be nailing cyclists & joggers.

The grass needs to be cut anyway, so I slammed the deck and went for a walk....
