What belts did you use? I had ordered a few Losi green ones off ebay only for them to be bad. I hate to see you put sketchy ones in only to have them fail. I did buy the tough racing ones for backup. I need to take mine apart and see how the belts look after some running.

I used the Losi green belts. I've googled nearly every rc forum and read all the opinions about the Losi belts and the Tough Racing ones. I think I'll be fine as I don't plan on doing any hardcore racing with this one.

I still need to obtain a body though. I see there is a repro on ebay from TBG. Does anyone know if it's any good? Maybe I should just wait for a Losi original.

TBG bodies are really good! I have bought ar least 10 bodies from that guy, including the xx4 body, and they are a touch thick than the originals. The bodies are made from molds of original bodies.
I've never had to communicate with him, and I usually get the pkgs in under a week. And he is shipping from Canada.

Spray a WD40 on a rag and rub the belts through it. It will help remove any oxidation from it and coat it.. If you belts are not super shiny, they maybe a lil oxidized(equals old'ish). Also, after wipping the smooth top surface of the belt, you can then hold it up to the light and see if there are any cracked-lines showing b/t the belt teeth. You can tell if they are barely there or bad. These cracks are where the belt will become weak and eventually delaminate and fail.

Just bcz its a older belt doesn't mean its crap.. my buddy has (3) xx4's and he hasn't changed a belt in ~8yrs, while racing at least two of the cars almost every wknd, winter season, until the 22-4 came up. He still takes them to the track, incase his 22-4 breaks.. lol

Beau, I think in your buddies case the saving grace was/is he run's them weekly or so. I have read if the belts sit in one position long enough they go bad. I know I was trying to run mine regularly after I built it for 2014 VONATS. I have gotten away from that, but I will spin the wheels when I'm in the basement, LOL!

Quick update: I have some new spoked wheels on the way. Also, I picked up an original Losi body from Pegasus which wound up being way cheaper than TBG + their shipping. I'll post a pic once I get the body trimmed and the wheels and tires set.

This is really cool. Thanks for sharing. I picked up a Losi set the other day which included an XX4. Trying to get it all running myself.
