Nice build. I like what you did with the servo setup, never seen or thought about that. Also the rear suspension mounts your using are T2 parts. VERY hard to find. Just got a T2 project and someone put T1 rear mounts on and hacked the back of the chassis to fit around the hinge pins and arms because the mounts pushed them far enough forward to interfere.

Thanks for the comments, folks.

I cannot claim the paternity of the standup servo idea - actually I saw it on RC10talk first, can't remember if it was GreenHell or Grizzly, but I believe one of these two. Credits to the initial "inventor". I think it's the soundest possible solution, which obviously wasn't on the radar screen at the time of full-size servos.

Thanks RCChris for spotting T2 hubs. Can't believe I didn't see it myself, to be honest. I need to find myself some proper 6360's, shouldn't be an issue thanks to the re-re's. Thank you.

Ok, prepping the TBG 10T body for paint.

First, window masks. rather than cut them on the body, I did some templates in paper and then used these templates to carve masks out of whatever sticker sheet I had available: in this case a lowclasscc (is it still a forum sponsor btw? great stuff back then!) chassis film protector leftover.

Position paper on body with tape

light from the back so you can see the window-edge shadow on the paper

Masks done :)

Paintjob. I can only do one paintjob, it's the one that's been adorning all my offroaders for years, the good news is I master it about right now ;) This one (on my Xb2). No PRP or CDPaint job, but it does the trick once it's plastered with stickers

Masking in Progress:

Painted, but still with that blue protective sheet:

Haaaa, now it's yellow and not green :)

And, fitted, but not decorated:

Then I went off to my sticker sheet cupboard, only to find out that I didn't have that spare 10T sheet I was hoping for... and MCI is closed till May 30th, grrr....

I guess that'll leave me some time for gluing those tires. Other than this and a mising pinion, the car is ready to hit the track - which I don't have any of any more :(

Almost done...

Paul

Thanks guys - Order placed at MCI with a couple of other decal sheets. Tires are glued, all that's needed is the decals now.

While bench testing, I found out that the Durgo servo-saver, who, I was told on the forums, is a good substitute to the more expensive xray super-stiff one, well, isn't, really. It's way too soft even on the bench, so I can't imagine how it'll be on the track with the load on the big front wheels. Gotta find something different, or another LP servo altogether as the 1251mg doesn't have that great a reputation of robustness.

Then again, given when I will drive this car, ie no idea when, and how I have just missed a truck-of-the-month conmpetition participation, I have plenty of time to sort it out

Stay tuned for the final pics once decal'ed,
Best,
Paul

DONE!!!!

Aaaaaand I AM DONE

I have received my sheets from MCI, plus dug a few extra out from my personal stash-o-stickies... Including some ultra-rare RC10Talk.com ones I got from Mr. Schulz himself back in the days.

Image

There was a little incident with one of the rear lights as I used a hairdryer to heat them up a bit as they were to stick to a curved surface... except I didn't see the temp was maxxed out, so it curled instantly. Bummer. For the rest, I think it looks pretty darn cool if you ask me. As usual, fluo on iphone4 doesn't show that well, but you get the idea.

Image

JC 3D's in the back, PL's The Edge in front, if I'm ever ballsy enough to run this beauty it should run well. The problem is, I like it a lot like that, clean and newish-looking... Now on to the next project. Let's make it a real 10T runner this time!

Have fun y'all!

Merci ;)

Weren't you the one who coined the stand-up lo-profile servo trick?

That looks really great. I'm going to sift back through your thread and get the details, and probably borrow some ideas for mine.

Thanks folks.

That paintjob is pretty much impossible to miss once you've gotten the hang of it. Plus it works with other colors. Then put the right stickies at the right place, especially a couple of fluo touches in the white section that act as a reminder of the fluo main color in the back, and you've got a winner, every time - at least as far as 2hr paintjobs are concerned... there are obviously much more talented and patient painters who can do amazing stuff. I can't. I can only do this one paintjob, I'm a pure one-(average-)trick-pony.

I take back what I (maybe) said on the Durango servo saver I'm using on the car. It's wimpy. I bought it as a cheap equivalent to xray's ultra-costly, ultra-stiff DTM SS, but it doesn't hold a candle to it. It's soft as a pillow, it just won't work on this truck. I probably will replace it with a plastic servo arm (not metal - I'd rather strip the arm than the servo's internals).

Still have to go run the car... If I dare...

My goodness it's been 2 years already :o

The car will go the "La Savoyarde" which is a vintage meet this weekend! So it did its maiden run saturday in the yard at about 11pm

First: the durango SS went to the bin. it is totally, absolutely useless, the front wheels wobble like there is no tomorrow. Absolute useless part. a proper Kimbrough took its place. the 1251 is up to the part (although a bit light on paper I think).

Second: the 10.5T is hauling a$$... even with zero-ish timing. Forgot how a properly geared mild BL can haul! and the 10T is such a sweet, mild-mannered platform... it actually feels "modern". What a design, what a truck!

then a few last-minute adjustments, you know how it is, debugging the car the first time around, like some electronic gremlins, and the likes....

BUT SHE RUNS! YAY!

Will try to snap a few pics this weekend. Can't wait to run it "for good"! :)

Exceptional!

I really like how clean your build is Paul. I'll have to go back to the beginning of the thread and read it again.
