Sorry Jeff already answered this question previously.

They are Zener diodes betweeen pins 1 and 2.

When wired for a 6 cell battery the voltage is reduced for the receiver.

Still undecided at the moment about electronics. I have 2 bantam midget orange servos, a old Novak receiver and Novak 1 ESC that would perfectly fit this car. I'm also digging the old and stock mechanical speedo though. I could easily get rid of two plugs there and it would look neater. That being said I'm not sure how to install the power cables for the servos.
Until I figure it out I received some neat ProLine wheels. Not sure if they are totally period correct but they were certainly made for the RC12 older series. Stay tuned!
