Sorry guys the back ground on these pages is a dark grey not white .I guess the fluro green stands out well against it. I dont really see the problem-
As for the Schumacher buggies-I have a pile of them.Ive recently moved house and everything is in storage so its hard to get any pics for the time being. Ive owned a heap of very nice Bosscat's with all the works upgrades and still have this one.Its got the ball raced alloy steering arms too.I run a GTB 5.5 sintered brushless and its F A S T !!!! Im yet to dial it in properly though and I hope to spend some time at the track with it sometime soon. I always liked the Procat body so I modified the car to resemble a Procat by changing the rear shock mount also.

Nope, this is a Wasp high torque gearbox in one of Procats

Terry, now that would be good in my vintage championship ProCat! We are limited to 19 turn motors, so that would cut drag nicely! Know of any for sale?

I didn't have anything like your gearbox (nice bit of kit BTW) - I had a top layshaft made from machined nylon, a direct one piece replacement for the kit layshaft. I bought it from Wasp in the early 90's but having since acquired an NIP MMS layshaft they look identical?

What was the point of the machined RW spur gears? Were they supposed to be more "round" than the Schumacher moulded gears which had obvious high and low spots?

Ha, ha - nope! I only acquired this one as I was daft enough to bid on this one that had been run over. I spotted all the other goodies already on it and was surprised to find the gearbox in there.

Wasp weren't an engineering company like MMS and RW, they bought in their parts from various companies including MMS and packaged them themselves.
The RW spurs were both rounder and more durable than kit spurs. Schumachers spurs were nylon, not reinforced with glass or carbon like today, so they were soft and easily damaged, the tufnol spurs RW used to make were very durable, hard to break and very difficult to wear out - I've known steel pinions to wear out before a tufnol spur

Ah, Tufnol, that's the word I was looking for, not Delrin. I've got weird machined alloy spur which fits Schumacher cars (see piccy). Anyone know who made it?

I have/had tufnol gears for my ultima and optima mid also, but none of them came to me in the original package.
It would sure be cool to find out who made these.
The only ones I ever managed to destroy were the 64 pitched ultima spurs which was probably because of improper meshing

Tufnol gears were machined by RW Racing, especially in the days when they were a general engineering company and the gears were bought from them and sold by SRM Racing.

Hi Dangermouse, I've just got hold of some Yokomo wheel adapters for my Procat. Did these work well for you? Do you have any tips for installing them?

Yep they work great.

Not much to worry about. Just make sure the wheel screws aren't to long. Maybe use a touch of screw lock on the wheel screws. You could always drill your rims to take 4 securing screws with todays brushless power.

Thanks (is it Doug?) I'm not putting insane power through it (6.6v) so I'll see how I get on with two screws, but thanks for the tip. Yes, will definitely use a bit of threadlock. I'm also going to use a 25mm hex head screw so I can use a lock nut to keep the wheels on (like other cars)

Yep that's me, no worries.

Haven't really done anything with my Cats in a while. I keep getting sidetracked with my RC planes. These days I find driving RC cars somewhat dull and boring, lacking in dimension, though my brushless lunchbox is good for a few giggles.
