Have you ever taken a look at the CC-01 chassis platform? They are a decent crawler/scale rig that adapt well to smaller proportioned bodies.

i have a twin hammers. its about the same size as an rc10. its a cool little rig for sure and pretty tough, but a huge pita to work on mostly from the crap buttonhead hardware they use everywhere.

i took mine out to an outdoor track once and it did really well. i had a pro4 3300kv with a mmp on 3s, the thing was a ton of fun around the track. ive also seen them do very well in scale comps with just the addition of a locker up front. its a really cool rig and if they had only made it a little bigger i think it would be more popular today.

if the bug bites you, axial and vaterra are your two best bets. axial has a very firm grip on the majority of the scene but vaterra has done some nice work with the twin hammers and ascender. ascender is a hell of a nice truck compared to the aging and boring scx platform. hpi had something really interesting they were recently teasing but it seems the future of hpi is unsure.

and then there is the rc4wd tf2 and gelandes. fun trucks but definitely more scaler than crawlers.

Yup, The SCX-10 is getting old, but word on the street is Axial is coming out with an all new scale rig to replace the SCX-10 line. I hope it is true, because they are the ones with the AX-10 that took the crawling scene by the horns and ran with it. It would be nice to see a new offering from them. Wraith axles are nice as well, but the are too wide to build a proper scale rig. It seems they are more suited for a MT build then anything.

Here's my semi-scale crawler modeled after my 1:1 truck, it was built before "scale" was a "thing".

Tamiya TLT based crawler, Bender chassis and Traxxas gearbox. A bit of an odd combination but it all works.

From my understanding Bender went on to design Axial gear.

The tlt-1 was what the hbx 16885 reminded me of. I remember them being widely used as a crawler base and the hbx just looks like it has the same strong and weak points as the tlt.

I did see the cc01 i think. It's the one with independent front suspension right? Thst helped me lean over the wltoys. My first car was a boomerang and the plstics were just so bad compared to the ones used in the ultima I got next.

I really like the looks of the sawback. Is it any good?

Yup, the CC-01 has independent front suspension and linked rear straight axle.

The saw backs are ok. The shocks tend to leak, a lot and the tires and foams are not the greatest. The did a nice job in the scale depart for the axles and chassis rails. They tend to do as well as the SCX-10 trucks, with tire upgrades. The earlier version have the leaf springs for more scale looking chassis. Only thing I dislike really is that Jeep body.

Thanks. I had read about the feiyue fy3 but most people were just going on about how to make it faster.
Hobbyking has another wltoys model sharing the basic design of the twin hamers too.
I'm looking forward to receiving the car and get started on the conversion.
