The chassis looks great. Rod, I'm sure this is painful...but it's a process. If I can help with ANY parts for the restoration if the nylon isn't salvageable etc, please let me know. I'm pretty damn sure that I'm not the only one who would donate parts to see this Phoenix rise.

Thanks Reg, it's just tough to look at! I'm not looking for any hand outs, but I would like to purchase a set of rear GoodYear tires and a gear cover if any members can help with those?

I'm getting a bit more work done on the tear down. Most of the car is now apart and ready for cleaning, sanding, polishing, bleaching or whatever may come to each part. Reg, I haven't tried the shock therapy on any nylon parts yet, but probably will give it a try on the other car to see what happens and if it's worth while. I'm actually just being lazy about getting the distilled water.

You can tell where the out drives were exposed that's for sure.



These shocks have seen better days, I can't wait for the after shot.

I got this gear cover from another member when I traded some stuff. If it's the correct one for this, someone give me an address to send it to.

24 hr soap treatment on the remaining aluminum parts... I threw the springs in to see what would happen, which was nothing but just cleaning them. The shock bodies and motor plate turned out really nice though.



A little shock and awe therapy. I was only giving 5 minutes in each at a time, but I should be leaving them 10-15 minutes. I'll try again tomorrow since I didn't have too much success this evening.

That gear cover looks right but I think its milky later one. The Edinger early cover is clear. Thank you for the offer, if it's clear I will for sure buy it!

Yeah it's definitely translucent not clear. I'll keep an eye out for a clear one. If I find one, it'll be donated.

Are you simply boiling the parts in water for 5-15 minutes, or using chemicals too?

Assuming the ice bath afterwards is to rehardened/seal the nylon after boiling?

I'm just using distilled water for boiling, no chemicals. The idea is to open and close the micro pore spaces or expand and contract the surface of the nylon so the staining comes off. Nobody has tried it before on fire damaged parts, but it's been used before to remove dye.

As far as parts go that can't be refurbished, I think a running list of parts needed would be a worthy cause.

A lot of work.
But it looks like it's coming along well considering the damage.

I would have Rod confirm this, but I think the only parts he doesn't have are the tires and gear cover. I'm sure other parts will have to be replaced, but he has spares.

So here is the result of shocking the parts... it did not remove the discolouration from heat damage, and also removed the melted section of this rear arm that got too hot.




The towers will have to be bleached sanded too. If that doesn't work, then they will have to be replaced.

All the anno parts look like they came out nice. I am sure bleach will do the trick for the nylon and towers. Then a boiling to get rid of the bleach, and a gentle slow boiling in tea to bring back the original colour!

As someone that also had a house fire I hate to see that look in the initial pictures. Luckily I didn't have any of my RC cars in the room that burned but I did loose a CG8 WRC Tamiya static model. It's great to see you resurrecting it. After cleaning my room of junk and finding my OG RC10 I may get motivated to clean it up.
