Well the Harbor Freight heat gun worked. I rolled the piece over an empty small glass jar (like for spices) held in my bench vice. Thanks for the tips.

Looks great! Glad we could help. Your bumper looks just like the aftermarket one I bought 23 or so years ago! BTW-It protects the AE shocks on my Hot Trick dual shock conversion (also 23 years old...) nicely as well. Someday the rest of my SE will look that nice I hope...


I also recently found the 'flat' aftermarket bumper (red.....and probably HT) that I bought and installed, but never used. I decided it didn't protect the shocks enough and took it back off. Been sitting forgotten in a box of misc parts ever since. Most of the guys that were running were racing oval. I stuck with off road for the most part...

Yeah I've one of those flat ones too. A JG. It has a pair of holes to provide oval body mounts. I like my fbrication in that I added a bit to make a skid plate and use the front bulkhead holes as opposed to the stock pair on the front edge of the chassis.
It's really quite easy to work with this kydex. Won't be long and someone's going to be making bumbers again, with all the re-re's out now, I'm supprised I don't see more JG or CRP type kydex immitation.

What did you use to cut the kydex?

Al, I have a little home-made table scroll saw I made by taking a board and drilling a 1/2 diam hole in it, then mounting my dremmel from below. The cutting bit on the dremel pokes up through the hole in the table. It works slick, and doesn't take up any space 'cause I mount it in the vice when I need it. (I don't have a lot of workbench space for tools). I can get you pics if you are interested.

Awesome work, I like the paint job color combo and black rims! Gives it a real old school look.

That's what I figured because to cut that stuff is not easy and of course get a nice smooth edge. You could probably make a few and sell them as those are hard to find and very expensive if you do. Excellent job as with the whole build, I love it and am working on a chassis for myself right now but won't be anything as nice as yours.

Thats just downright beautiful. Compliments to the builder, the painter, the fellow who popped the body, and the fellow that had the brains to keep that car all these years. From someone that owned/drive a YZ834b and that saw Gil Losi's IFMAR car in the shelf every weekend for many years, I approve!

You still don't have me convinced it's a Delta chassis...it's an RPS item (edit - it's actually homemade, per the bloke I got it from, but a very good job I'd say). There's also an accompanying battery hold down (that I need to make) in the shape of a slanted T, and this chassis is drilled for it. I also need a front bumper, so the plan is to get my hands on some Kydex. I'm gonna do some fabricatin'.

Does anyone actually have the battery strap kit or pictures of one for this 7 cell RPS chassis?

Thanks gents! I am not worthy, really. I think I picked up a sympathy vote for being away from the board for so long.

Made it to Spokane btw! ... And then like 3 days after I got the truck unloaded, I had to leave the wife and kid with the 1/2 packed house and fly over to Goose Bay in Labrador for work. It's just a little chilly over here. -20 C today, with a 25km/hr gusts and blowing drifts.
