Ok so a few things from the last few pages of posts:
- First, sorry I've been MIA a bit lately. As many of you know I left my position at RC Car Action and I've been very busy working on some new exciting RC projects that hopefully I'll be able to show all of you really soon!
- Joel THANK YOU SO MUCH for not only video taping all the races but sharing them! Thank you and Lars also for making the amazing trip from Sweden to join us. Hopefully I'll see you both really soon.
- One last thing before I address some of the questions... I FINALLY have B Main trophies for those who didn't get them last year. Sorry I was a total slacker on this one... i have no excuse but on the flip side, they will be mailed out next week to all of you.
- Ok so on to the questions. First up... Yes MRC is fine. Joe Berlenbach has raced the MT10 the past few years and done really well with it. It is sort of a stadium truck with big tires but it doesn't really have much of an edge (if any) over a King Cab or anything else. HM2 has been a VERY close race every year.
- Along those lines the MRC World Scale truck is also allowed in HM1 BUT only with the monster truck tires on it. There was another version that was made that was a huge Stadium truck with spiked tires... this one is allowed as long as it runs the Chevron style tires from the monster truck version (the Thunder King?).
- 2WD mods are fairly open. My biggest rule is get it running and have fun. It doesn't HAVE to be true vintage mods, you can run new axles, tires, whatever... get creative I say. Its no holds barred!
- The race this year is indoors. I had an awesome time at Bethel and they always did a great job with the track. Lester at Wolcott was going to build a 1/10 track outside his indoor facility but the deal fell through with the landlord. This decision was also made to relieve the anxiety unpredictable CT weather gives me as related to this race being outside as well as the $500 deposit I have to put down on a tent rental to cover the track in case the weather goes south on us every year (of which I get back $375 every year I have cancelled the reservation last minute... I consider it a "good weather insurance policy" but really i do it so we can all have some fun).
- Since its indoor yes soft compound Proline Suburbs/JConcepts Barcodes work the best. Some of the guys that race there weekly (you cheaters know who you are on here) actually grind down tires to slicks. The track allows tire warming AND grip compounds so have at it!
- Finally the question about factory drivers. There has been a commitment by Associated to send Brian Kinwald so we look forward to having him come out to race this year! 2WD guys you certainly have your work cut out for you this year! I never like to commit anyone to anything but I will say that Brian is an awesome guy and is always happy to talk to people, sign autographs and everything else. He is a true professional and a gentleman and I'm honored to have him come to our race! There may also be a couple other guys coming but nothing confirmed as of yet.
- I'll preempt the next question that will probably come from Brian coming and say that IF and WHEN the day comes that we get more than a few visiting pro drivers I will probably create a class just for them... I've always wanted to have a pro class and would love to see some of the old guys come out too.. maybe a "Masters" class is in our future! If anyone on here is friends with some pro (I suppose that includes me too... thanks magazine job) definitely invite them out. Most of their sponsors support the race and it would be awesome to see the pro guys come out as well!
- All new race info has been posted to the 2014 Vonats post on here but I just wanted to also say make sure you check out vintageoffroadnationals.com and join our Facebook page to share photos and videos of the past year. Every year has been awesome and I thank John at RCHR, Scott and the BRCRO crew at Bethel Racearena, Lester at Wolcott Hobby and Raceway and especially all of you that have come out to the race for helping build this race to be its have its own legacy and give everyone a place to race their cars! See you all this year!
