I would certainly understand if he intendeds to design something brand new around current cars and technology. It doesn't make sense to rebuild or design a new kit for a 20 year old car. However even 20 years ago 10,000 was an impossible number to hit. There aren't 10,000 of those cars out there today if there even ever was.

Don't get me wrong, I think the old kit would be nice to have. It was a cool conversion. You definitely won't win any races with it but it is a neat novelty. It came out when manufacturers had figured out that mid engine was the way to go in 4WD as opposed to rear motor.

what's the big thing that he's working on? it's gotta be bigger than a re-release of a 4wd kit. a complete mip chassis set with tranny, shocks, some kind of a chassis, cvd/a's, machined tranny outdrives, arms, and shock towers - kit? or is a new variation of something old? a hopped up tranny?

I doubt it, there HAD to me WAY more than 10,000. I thought I remember reading somewhere where Roger Curtis mentioned roughly how many they sold, but I can't remember or remember what the number was.

the first run of rc10's was like 5,000. and that's just early edingers.

Wow I had no idea they were that popular.

I gotta agree with Jay. Back in the day, Tamiya released a special edition porsche to comemorate the sale of the 100,000 of their first Rc car, the porsche 934. So if there was over 100,000 of those crappy cars around there is surely more than 10,00 Rc10's.

Thats why I wanted to clarify what he meant. RC10's are a dime a dozen. Now I just wish the prices reflected that.

You mean the MIP Short Course Racing Chassis?

i think it's a ball diff for the hornet gearbox.

BITD (early nineties) i remember talking with cliff at RCHR, and seem to remember at that point they were over a Million of the aluminum chassis cars. -Jeff

i remember another member saying the same, when he asked cliff lett about it. something over a 1 million rc10's were made.

If so its about time someone made something for the Hornet and equivalent gearboxes. I could never understand it. They were/are used in so many different vehicles and custom applications yet no aftermarket parts were ever made for them. I tried working with RC4WD for years to make something for them like aluminum gears, a housing, or a locker. I got them to go as far as to make a CAD drawing of a TracGear but it was never put into production. The insides of these gearboxes are basically the same as a Clods just slightly smaller so all that has to be done is to scale down the parts a little.

Where are they? I am sure that even if the average member here has 3 and some members have 30, that still doesnt come anywhere NEAR the production.

They must be all over America, just waiting to be found. Attics, bunkers... under the bed. Wow.. just makes me shiver at the thought of whats still waiting to be found in this hobby.
