The plastic impeller has haunted the VW MK4 for years now. To me it should have been a recall, but I guess they lasted long enough that it just became a technical service bulletin
I'd put that 1.8T at 200k plus in terms of longevitiy so long as it's had synthetic in it. Of course, I know nothing of the effects of Michigan weather and aluminum engine components.

I bet you are on VW Vortex

I was also a service advisor for VW. I can't lie, I'm a fan. You either love them or hate them. Or is that you love to hate them??

I was a VW Service Manager in late 2003 during the first 04' Toureg releases. Holy crap, what a mistake that was, don't get me wrong the Truck was awesome ( especially the TDI V10) but they
shotgunned a product to BMW Audi and Benz public, and then wanted to play duck and cover once
they were in the truck. I had one Premium V8 Toureg that had 26 RO's in 12 mo ( mostly complaints based off of VW Vortex members complaints like condensation on the windscreen with the AC on in the AM, rotational hum from 60-61 mph (like the OE 20" low pro's didn't cause that) and lots of other sillyness) on the up side I had a PPE V8 Toureg to drive until I put in notice, and an R32 for a bit-all dealership cars.
No offence to you Anthony ( I bet I know the dealer you bought yours) but VW owners as a rule
are BMW drivers that are to cheap to buy one- I had a girl trade in her MK4 because it needed rear brakes at 25k, I kid you not came in for service, and left with a new car!!
But 80% of our customers were really great, regardless of what Jetta recall was out for this month, or how many times that they're window regulator failed, or what annoyance my Toureg owners had at the moment. They were just customers that my writers needed to treat way differently than any other brand

in my case this vw driver is a bmw driver whose wifes would kick his ass if he bought the 335/m3 he wants. something about the kids needing to go to college. I took loans for my education, they should too

I'm "stuck" with a GTI and possibly a golf-R in 2 years.
The local dealer has a bit of a monopoly in a relatively small town. They are bad enough that they lost their porsche and mercedes franchise in the past 2 years despite there being a decent number of benzes on the road locally. I hear very good things about the local bmw dealer, so maybe a mid level 3 series instead of the R.
I replaced my own window regulator on my 98 vr6 and do most of my own work. Got stuck paying for coil pack replacement on that one as the dealer in Syracuse "could not replicate the problem" until the 3rd time I brought it in, by which point it was out of warranty. to be fair, I paid labor, they paid for the part.
the sales team sells the first car, service is what sells the second. my wife tells me I am crazy for considering another VW,I think she wants me to get a boring toyota commuter appliance.

Anthony, if you ever have any other service or sales related issues LMK "D" place I can't help you at. But if you ever need anything else from Romano, just let me know and I will make a call
before you go out there and deal with Gene or Josh

I ain't buying no ramp. They can jump in the back, but one is getting old... 9 years old this May. So he might need some help.
AND.... the VW is GONE! My wife actually cried; I came back in the house twice when the hot English number (yep... I said hot) came to pick it up. Both times she had tears in her eyes. I told her, if you are crying over a 2001 Beetle, I don't want to hear it when I have reservations over selling either of my two Mustangs.
For the moment, we are a one car family (well one that runs....3 don't). She's not excited about that.
