must be a texas thing  .

Had my newer dumptruck picked up by a flatbed from 45 minutes away and then driven back past his doorstep to mine another half hour past his door for $135. Driver had over 2-1/2 hours into it from his doorstep back to his doorstep...but I was happy since it saved me a whole day of dickin around to get it back to my place

That's Houston. The highest towbill I have ever seen was in Houston, 2K to pull a car out of a bayou.

I had a similar incident with a car I sold. In my ad I stated it had high mileage, had been wrecked, and stated clearly that the car will be sold as is. The guy that bought it calls me two months later saying that i did not disclose the accident and I should refund all of his money. I did tell him to take a long walk off a short pier, and then I asked exactly what he expected for a car that was advertised as having been in a wreck and having high mileage that he paid about 1500 under wholesale for. A week or so later I got a letter from an attorney making the same demands. I had a family friend send a response that included the ad and the bill of sale w/ both our signatures, that described the vehicle completely and being sold as is no warranty. I never heard another word after that.
Just to say it again this guy doesn't have a leg to stand on. Let him huff and puff then if he can get it to a judge he will be laughed out of court. You may be able to get punitive damages from him though. Yeah claim alienation of affection, the stress from all the proceeding has taken a toll on your romantic life. Throw out an outrageous claim to go with his.

My thoughts exactly. Compensation for loss of work and mental anguish due to his frivolous lawsuit. If that doesn't sell it, pour a hot cup of coffee in your lap and sue him for not telling you the coffee was hot AND to put it down before he told you he was gonna sue you.

He just wants you pay so you don't get sued. Don't give in. SCAMMER! Did the motor actually blow up or is that just BS? Tell Chico and the man to go pound sand.

Forget filing costs, if this guy actually hires a lawyer for these he's a complete moron. You'd take somebody to small-claims court for something like this, and if you stated your case in a rational manner, the judge would find in favor of you (unless there is some wacky law in your state).

I'm selling a clothes dryer on craigslist this week, and I'll be checking with my father (an attorney) to see if there is anything I have to do to keep whomever buys it from coming back in a week saying it doesn't work. It's probably better if nothing more than cash changes hands, since then they have no proof of any claims I supposedly made, or even proof of sale really.

Well after numerious phone calls and text message threats about taking me to court among other things, he finally just stopped as i avoided his calls and texts. I had his number blocked and filed a police report with my local police. In the end it was obvious that he was unhappy with the purchase after the fact ( i guess the rust falling off it and kicking up in the rear view mirror on the way home may have caused this) and was just trying to scam me to get some $ back and make himself feel better about a project he could not handle. I still don't really know if the engine went south on it, but i have a pretty good feeling that he's cruzin around town in it or the car has been parted out already. I stated i was going to take the ride to check out the engine and i got a bunch of excuses of the location of the car and alot of "well i'm busy" So all in all this was definitly a experience. I have 2 other early t/a's that i was thinking of selling but this little event has caused a change of thought for now. Thanks again for everyones input on this.

Its good to hear that the idiot finally stopped harassing you. Who knows, maybe this is just a little scam he has going. Whatever it is its definitely nothing against you personally.

When I was 17 or 18 I was backing out of a friends driveway and backed into a car I didn't see. His driveway had a huge evergreen tree at the end that caused a blind spot. It was a woman and the accident made her spill coffee all over herself. I found it odd that there was no indication that she tried to swerve out of the way or even lock up the brakes. She didn't blow the horn either. I didn't even realize I hit somebody until after I looked behind me. I thought the bump I felt was just my back end dropping off the edge of the driveway. It was like she swerved into me as I only pulled out a few inches to hit her.

I was a new driver and this was a new experience for me so I didn't question it too much. A cop came and ended up not giving either of us an infraction or anything. No big deal I thought and never heard another thing about it. I didn't even get my truck fixed as it wasn't in the best of shape anyway from all the off-roading I did plus only the bumper got beat up a small amount.

A year or so later I get served with papers that she was suing me claiming the accident caused her all of these various medical conditions and loss in quality of life. Needless to say I was very upset by it. I had to get a lawyer and have a deposition. Thats when I realized how full of crap she was. Her recollection of events included that I was driving a white Jeep but I drove a black 86 S-10 pickup. Come to find out she was a scam artist from Florida who would place her car behind people as they were backing up so that she could sue them to get money. :x The ridiculous part is I ended up still having to give her settlement money for whatever stupid reason but thankfully it wasn't a lot.
