Nothing is completely together yet because I need shims. The spacers for the rear make it too tight to put the hexes on the axle, so I won't be using them. The universal dogbone end, once everything is assmbled and shims are in place, ends up half way into the cup, ensuring no binding. When everything is together, I'll take pics.....

It is done. The car is done. The wheels/universals with shime works fantastic. I test drove the car tonight and it just kills with the new rubber.

For the fronts, I used 3 1mm shims (washers). For the rears, a 4mm (?) shim and a 1mm shim. Awesome. The only problem I have now? The pinion gear is too big. After the test run, I noticed some lexar melt around the motor.

The shims had no part number, I went right to New Era, and they fitted stuff for me, and gave them to me loose. I have to stop by there this weekend with the car so they can see the end result...

I bought two sets of wheels so I could put street tires on one set, and dirt tires on the other. Pictures later tonight....

are you running the front suspension in the 'wide' configuration? That is, do you have the c hubs mounted in the outermost mounting point on the suspension arms?

The front carriers are on the outer most. If I put them on the inner mount, I think that the universal would probably bind.

All the shims are on the inside of the carriers, rather than the outside behind the hex. I really don't know how else to explain that.

They were shorter than the ones I had on there, and the blue/aluminum looks nice on there.

I think I originally misunderstood your question. Tonight when the kids go to bed I'll take some pictures and post them.

no, you answered the question fine. So the lazer cvds that are 73mm are used in the 'wide' configuration. The narrower setup I think is around 5mm shorter,so you'd need something like a 68mm shaft, which is the other option from kyosho, I think. and all the shims are on the cvd side of the axle, no problem there.

please post a pic though, it will be very helpful and informative for others as well.

I tried with my 68mm shafts from academy, but they went into the doutdrives of the diff just a little too much: they'd start pushing on the diff before the suspension was fully compressed. (You could maybe avooid that by re-arranging the top links position so the tire does not lean in when compressed but then you loose traction up front when cornering).
I'm thinking of trying with tamiya 78mm cvd's upfront; using the wider rear arms and later lazer SP front wheels, but the axle part on them is really really short.

Before you look at these pictures, a couple of things I should warn you about:

1. Apparently, I suck at glueing tires
2. I ran this car today, and never blew the dust off afterwards. Sorry
3. I did not do a restore like some of you folks on here would have, I want this to be a runner.

I really haven't figured out the whole toe in/out thing, and everytime I adjust I go too far one way or the other:



And I just niticed in that last picture, I lost a king pin again.

So I changed the tires to Proline Dirt Hawg, and did a beeter job glueing them. Also, this car is a madhouse driving it now. Thank you everyone for all the help!
