I loved the way my TLR BBs made the Goldie feel...I will have a full set of AE BBs by this weekend

Looks like the standard scotch-brite scuff to mescr8p wrote:is the paint mask still on the wing?
Sweet to hear on all levels. Looking forward to more reports as well.Orange wrote:Its scotch brite scuff!
I ran the car today at SRS but before I talk about that, Maifield was out there testing something along with BT, Cochran and Nuemandahl and Jason Rouna was also there for the tire support... I'll try to get the full scoop later, but my guess is it was a new car, I got kinda close to it and I don't think it was a B4.2. Just thought I would throw that out there for ya to squirm about,
When I got to the track I found that it had been prepped quite well. As a matter of fact, sugar is going to be used to prep the Cactus track this year and for the AE testing, they had sugared the track which was a super bonus for me! If you have never run on a track prepped with sugar, then you should try it someday, it has the craziest super high bite traction ever. I have not run across any track that has more bite anywhere. the best way for me to explain it would be... imagine a track that is nearly as hard as concrete and has the texture of a sidewalk. You know how they put that broom finish on it. Now just think of that surface in a track form with jumps. That is the traction that you get from a sugar prepped track.
So with that said, the car felt good. I ran about 4 mins each on BK Bars, Tapers and even x2000's all in red compound. The car was hooked up... Jumping was good and it nosed down quite well, it was actually irritatingly too much at times but was doable. It jumped good, it landed good, it popped wheelies, I guess I can't really complain too much because the car was great, even with the different tires. Tapers were the best all around the car though. I still have to gear the car better and since the motor guy from AE happened to be at the track, he gave me some tips for the motor, so i'm going to try those things and gear it a little better.
I still had the short wheelbase, and I am going to tinker with that a little more next time. This time out was to get a feel for the tires. But so far, I can't really complain. Oh I am also going to shorten the wicker on the wing per JHarris suggestion.
Ok, I now have some clarifying questions regarding FDR (I don't mean to hijack your thread either). This is all depending on track size, but is the idea to get to a lower average FDR or go higher? For example, 81 spur / 30 pinion and multiply that by the IDR of 2.2 for the stealth will yield 5.94. Change the pinion to a 24 and the FDR increases to 7.43. The smaller pinion will allow the car to be quicker, but lose top-end, but the FDR is greater. Therefore if you are dropping your FDR from 5.8 to 5, then you are increasing your pinion or lowering your spur and thus giving you more top end, is that correct? Just wanted to make sure that I am understanding it all correctly.Orange wrote:You wet the track enough so that the sugar will stick, apply the sugar, then heavy water the track 2-3 times. Track has to be tamped hard before any of that. You know when the dirt has formed a crust on top when it turns a chocolate brown when dry. Or I suppose depending on the color of the dirt being used. Maybe a better discription would be it looks darker when dry than it does before you added sugar.
I don't recomend tracks, especially any indoor tracks to do this. The sugar ferments and smells like rotten cabbage after a while. Its times 10 with an indoor track. I would suspect that anywhere that has humidity would prolly be worse.![]()
I have a reedy 17.5 since that is the class I am running in. I asked about a big rotor and he told me what it comes with is the best. I may still try a big rotor because I could probably go up 4 teeth and still be okay with temp. My motor was barely warm yesterday. But he told me to increase the timing on the endbell to around 40 and tinker from there going up or down. I have a Tekin RS esc but its set in blinky mode, so not a lot going on there. I'm geared at 5.8 right now and I am going to get that down closer to 5.
On an "all torque" 17.5/13.5 BL motor, smaller pinion doesn't mean quicker. And typically, do you try to match an FDR to the course recommendations by the locals if you are hitting multiple courses for different races? Or do you go by your experience?
I know that FDR might be subjective here, but I wanted to hear your understanding on this.
Thanks!
