Way to go! 8) It's been 13 years for me and to be perfectly honest I still have cravings. It's nice to get that monkey off your back. Especially at the prices they charge now!

Congrats man. Its been about two and a half years for me. I also went cold turkey, unplanned. I think it is like you said, when you're ready you're ready. I started smoking when I was very young and smoked for over twenty years, tried to quit and failed many times. Then one night I was about to smoke my last one of the day before heading to bed, and it also happened to be the last one in my pack. I started thinking about how I would need to leave early in the morning to get more, then did I even have enough cash to get more? I decided right then and there completely out of the blue that that cig I was smoking would be the last one I ever smoked, and so far it was. After that it was surprisingly easy. I think the first couple of days I was still having cravings, but not bad, and after a few days I wasn't even thinking about it. I will say this though, I haven't noticed any major changes since I quit. I might not get winded as easy as I used to, but definitely no major change. People used to tell me how much better I would be able to smell and taste food, but the only difference I have noticed is that I can smell a cig burning a mile away.

i can honestly say i haven't felt the benefits from stopping that's for sure. i think my breathing is worse now than when i smoked a pack and a half a day. kinda makes it hard to stay smoke free, but i doubt i'll go back to it. i have enough health issues, so one less thing going into my body (that doesn't need to be there) the better.

My parents were huge smokers and they quit cold turkey when we were teenagers. I know how difficult quitting can be, and it's quite an impressive accomplishment. Gratz!

Did you notice, as I've read, that food tastes better after you quit smoking?

And what do you do now, after sex?

i wouldn't say that things taste better to me, just different. to be honest, some things that i really liked to eat i'm not all that fond of anymore just because some of the flavors are stronger than they used to be. so that kinda sucked.

sex? what's that? i'm married. :P

I quit a little over 3 years ago, and the biggest thing I notice are-
The smell of smoke on other people, and the ability to smell a cigarette over 1000m away, but mostly I deal with stress differently...instead if shelving my stress and having a smoke, I now deal with it right then.
