Cleaned up the Hot Trick ESC tonight, looks much better!



I also modified the trans brace I bought to work with the MIP trans. The MIP doesn't have any mounting holes on it, and its a bit tall, so I just shortened it a bit and put a small relief in it to clear the HT motor plate. It basically just rests on the trans case now so it wont be flexing.



I'm going to have to make a new mounting plate for the ESC since it wont be over the trans any more. I'm going to mount it to the bulkhead with a bracket so it will be horizontal below the receiver and above the battery.

Another very common way to mount the esc is to use a battery cup as a shelf, drill a couple holes and trim to fit. Bolt to the shock tower mounting holes. Just throwing it out there, it's easy and era correct

That sounds pretty similar to what I'm going to do (if I understand you correctly), but I was going to make a bracket out of aluminum. Do you have a pic of what you are describing?

Had a good RC day today. I picked this up from Hobby People in Orange (probably less than a mile from my house)

What a blast to drive! Unfortunately, I got through about half a pack and the receiver conked out! I took it back to HP and Justin, a manager there who's also on here, was kind enough to swap my receiver out with one from an AE parts car. Super cool of him!
There was a sweet Gold Pan RC10 in the case there that was one he built.

I also got a "goodie bag" from Jeff in the mail today, thanks Jeff! He sent me some parts I need for my Hot Trick RC10 restoration.

That is a good day... got lucky with the new receiver too.

Yup, for sure! I called HP first and the kid I got a hold of said there was nothing they could do and that I would have to go through AE. I decided to just take the car there and talk to them in person, since I wasn't too satisfied with that answer. Justin took care of me, no questions asked. They just earned a loyal customer

Found out last night when I tried to put my jellybean wheels on my front axles, I guess my car has adapter axles on the front? The Tamiya wheels/bearings fit, but the axles are too big for the AE stuff. Now I guess I need to buy some new front axles...

Yeah A few companies made conversion axles, I didn't notice they were converted I just figured it had the wheel adapters in the wheels.

Very sweet rc10. I have never even seen half the parts that are on that thing lol. Glad the b4 is working good for you. If you ever need anything else just let me know.

I might also have that axle you need at work. Or even be able to order it for you.
Heck i might even have it in my personal parts box that you can have. I will let you know.

Cracked open for the first time in about 25 years


Everything looks great!


Just need to clean, grease, and reassemble, and it should be good as new.

Found where it actually says MIP on it after wiping off some grime.


And the Hot Trick motor plate


just need to strip the orange paint off it, looks like the gold anodizing is in pretty good shape under the paint in the few places I can see it.
Anyone know a good paint stripper that won't harm the anodizing?

I'm a big fan of soaking in brake fluid (not cleaner). Dot4 is best but I've had great luck with dot3 as well

Do you still have to manually scrape the paint off after soaking in brake fluid? I soaked a bunch of plastic parts for about a week and I still had to scrape off the paint manually. The brake fluid softened it up, but that's about it. It's synthetic brake fluid though, I wonder if that makes a difference...

Depends a lot in the type of paint. Usually it comes off pretty easy after soaking a couple hours for me. I would still start there as it's about the safest way.

and I have had good luck soaking plastic parts in Purple Power degreaser. Soak over night and then hit the parts with a brush. You can also use some Castrol product or Simple Green.
