Not sure if I'm reading your question correctly but the Optima used 12mm hex so yes you can run modern wheels
I just hope the re-re uses straight axles with cross-pins, not the original tapered-shaft axles and friction-fit tapered holes in the hexes...that was a real limitation.

And as for the concerns about pricing...Kyosho's pricing on the Scorpion re-re was VERY reasonable--sure as hell better than what Tamiya's doing with THEIR re-re pricing. So, keeping fingers crossed that the Optima is affordable like the Scorpion is.

Ahhh, now I remember those danged press fit pieces of crap. Man I hated those. I too hope they've gone with something else. That was one of the truly bad engineering designs in the RC world.

I'm sure it has a cross pin to lock the hex.

Maybe they will put UJs or CVDs in the front.
Interesting to see if the ot-16 knuckle design is changed at all

They didn't change the drive on the Scorpion (unfortunately), so I doubt they will on the Optima.

Also, most of these modern 12mm hex wheels that you guys are looking forward to using have a 5mm bore (tamiya style) rather than the 4mm that Kyosho uses...So yeah, the wheel goes on, but it's hard to tighten the nut so that the wheel isn't kinda wiggly when it spins.

I didn't realize there was a difference. My wheels are very snug so I obviously got lucky when I bought them. They are just some off brand ie.very cheap. Wish I would have noted what brand they were as there are no markings on them.

the cool part about this release is that you would be able to use the front stuff if they don't change it too badly for yokomo 870c front ends 8) **fingers crossed C-hubs**

Will be interesting to see how many parts are directly compatible with the original, what was the case with the Scorpion?

I hope they don't repurpose bits from the ZX-5 and make if shaft drive so it can have ball diffs

When is it due to be released?

I'd be very surprised if it isn't the same as the original with maybe some transmission updates and LiPo holders.

Yes, they did. The rere Scorpion's "drive washer" has a locking pin, while the old one rely on a "conical" lock, or what ever it's called.
The original Optimas did already have a hex "drive washer", and not the same pressure "drive washer" as the Scorpion, although it still had that "conical" lock like the Scorpion. So since they dropped the "conical" lock for a locking pin on the Scorpion, it will be very strange if they didn't do the same on the Optima.

It looks like the Re re Optima will be chain driven going by the new teaser pic on the Kyosho site.

Its a pic of a chain with the Optima streaking past behind it at speed.

I've got to buy one! My only RC regret is selling my Javelin I had as a kid. This will put me one step closer to having it again!

Could that be fixed with different bearings?
