I was always curious about the mono shock setups. Why were these so popular back in the day?
Back then everyone was trying everything. The mono shock allowed the front end to rock back and forth to absorb some of the terrain. Didn't work everywhere for sure. Years later Dunn brothers used a dual shock but rocking system that emulated a mono shock on a Kyosho Lazer iirc. It was a one race deal, that track must have liked it. I seem to recall even the original Ultima was slated for a mono shock and changed to dual in final production.
Other than the handling characteristics there was also the weight saving , there's a reason you see so many drilled and milled out chassis , battery life was so limited it was all about going as fast as possible for the race duration , the lighter the car the higher you could gear it without the battery dumping on the last lap !GoMachV wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 10:12 pmBack then everyone was trying everything.
