Our local supermarket sells 10lbs boxes of 1/4lb supposedly all beef franks. Whatever the heck is in them, they're f'n bomb on the grill.

Ooh, I think I know what that is, can't remember what it's called, but I remember an episode of Dirty Jobs that covered the making of this meat thing that was a lot like Spam (the canned meat, not the inbox junk mail). It seemed interesting, but it was definitely a local/regional thing.

On the subject of hot dogs, an old staple of New England are fried hot dog slices mixed with baked beans sometimes called beanie weenies. :P The best hot dog bun (New England style) was also invented in this part of the country. They're basically rectangle in shape so they stand up better, and you can also butter and toast or grill the sides. :)

I'm not a picky hot dog eater, but to me Hebrew National ones taste the best.

I tried scrapple when we stayed in Lebanon PA a couple of years ago; not my thing!

That trip did start my unhealthy addiction to Amish Pretzels though! :)

I just saw something pop up in my Facebook feed (thanks for listening  ) that looked similar called livermush. I am NOT a fan of almost any liver, but growing up my German/Russian grandmother from South Dakota (um, yeah lol) made a liver sausage that I would die to have just one more time. So I guess that's gonna be something I need to try at some point.

This big RC race at the end of the month is going to have me in Indiana for the first time. Anything regional there I need to partake of ? My list is short so far- never been to a White Castle

Oh, and back to grandma... She used to make head cheese. I couldn't stand it. My grandpa loved it. I have never been so traumatized as the day I went into their garage and saw the 3 pigs heads on the garage floor.

White Castle, you're missing out on some nasty crap. You'd have to pay me to eat that garbage.

You should try White Castle if you haven't before but do yourself a favor and just get one. Any more than that and they really start to lose their appeal. There is a local place in New Albany called The Chicken House that has really good homestyle food. As far as famous chains you may not have been to before, Skyline Chili is in the area. I don't personally get the hype but it's one of those places a lot of people may have heard of no matter where you live.

I just checked and it looks like Rallys has changed since I last had them 25 yrs ago. Who allowed that? The Big Buford used to have BBQ sauce and an onion ring on top. It isn't that burger anymore. :( Looks like they merged with Checkers and changed things.

There are a couple here in town still. There used to be about 5. Like a lot of places, they kinda juggle their menu. I actually haven't been in a while to see if it is still on the menu here. Their fries are very unique and good. No fry sauce offered though.

I used to mix ketchup and BBQ sauce for my fries. Now I use ketchup, or sometimes nothing. Or usually if there was something with good sauce that the fries came with, I use the fries to take care of that leftover sauce. Clean the plate, right Mom?

You experienced head cheese / sousse. This is a traditional Eastern European offering. Other tasty bits include blood sausage / blutwurst, liverwurst, and bauernwurst.

Scrapple is best served thin and crispy (although it is fully cooked). Head cheese works well with vinegary foods such as pickles. The organ sausages are just fine if you enjoy things like sweetbreads (organ meats) or trotters (pig's feet).

All are unhealthy. I can manage most except for pickled trotters. Although I would much rather eat any of the above before a hot dog, chicken nugget or chicken patty. Once you know, the weird foods from impoverished traditions are a lot more appealing.

Oh, I also dig cabeza and lingua tacos....
