it took about 2 years off and on to do it. we did a 66 olds 442 also at the same time we we're working on this one. plus a couple other little jobs. we try to have 2 cars going at the same time. that way, if one of the owner's is a little flakey with keeping ahead money wise, there's still something else there to work on.

one of the guy's that we do work for is a multi-millionaire, so one of his cars is ALWAYS there. he's our Sugar Daddy.

Well, if you'd just fix the darned thing right, it wouldn't keep coming back ...

Just curious, how do you charge for what you do? If it takes you 2 years to do a resto ... :?:

hourly. time and materials. and we don't give estimates. we'll give the people high rough idea of what we think it'll cost to do their car. that's it. there no way you can quote someone a price to redo their 50+ year old car.

Must be fun keeping all that straight. Being a retired contractor, I am used to juggling time cards and material receipts for jobs, but it's still not my idea of a good time. :P

keeping it all figured out is my mom's job. lucky her, huh?

she's used to it, though. my dad has always built cars on the side in his garage. but it's more more of a full time deal for him the past couple years. i just go up weekdays after work if he needs me to, and on the weekends.

Did I say that I kept things straight? What I meant to say was I handed everything to my sister ...  Hey, all the material receipts had a job name on them, how hard could it be?

The only thing that kept me out of the resto business was sanding. I can't stand freaking sanding down a vehicle. And if that is not done right, the entire job is just crap.
