it's nobodies fault but my own. as with everything i'll just try to think of it as a character building/learning experience...
i'll fix it up. even though its been thrashed it still has all the real groovy parts on it. it just needs lots and lots of love to get to its potential.
the main thing that is bumming me out is i kinda need it for a dd.

Yeah, that was part of the deal, unfortunately!

Assboy got himself a decent rig and offloaded a hosed rig that looked pretty.
Anyone want to take a trip to cheekago and whoop some arse?

that might be. but it'll make you feel better passing the blame.
i remember when i bought my 79 camaro, 2 days after i got it, i was out crusin'. on the way home, i spun a rod bearing. i checked the oil, and there was nothing in it. guess i should've checked it as soon as i got it.

DAYUM you scr8p!

Ya think? That's the first thing I check when looking at a used vehicle, followed by the radiator, overflow tank, and all the rest of the fluids. Not only the level, but the smell of it. After that I'm not afraid to do a few Oakie dyno's on it and when taking it for a test drive I'm tickling the throttle plates with my toe a few times. If it breaks before I've bought it, it ain't my problem!

It's worked so far for me.

I thought that it was traded but just didn't go back to read thru it all. Might be that it was just poorly maintained and if it wasn't broke it wasn't fixed. Thats the way my ranger is anyway but then again I'm told I'm just hard on things

...
My Thornbirds just vibrate the hell out of it but I guess not as bad as the boggers did. Good luck on the repairs hoopty...gonna just have to put some miles on that avatar now
Scr8p,
I expected more from you

...just had to say it.

no miles on the avatar until its nice and warm outside.
i have pics of it when it was all newly built, and it was pretty darn nice. it was a frame off build, and when i was looking at the rig i saw those pics, and i assumed most of it was all there and in the same condition besides the obvious rear shock mount issue...
i tried this link before, but when i previewed the post it didnt work...
http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/pictures?userid={3B3815B3-63ED-45FE-82B7-3616604E0D85}&AlbumId={77E59BDC-5C3A-476F-8F8B-F6E975460399}&GroupId={E11B4469-5913-4E89-8B04-D50FEF040886}&nt=a
the original owner sold it on ebay about 4 years ago. so i would assume somebody who didnt have any patience for building or maintaining anything ended up with it and just beat the crap out of it.
an example of the complete butchery of it is that all of the frame mounts for the transfer case at one point or another got torn and bent up pretty bad, and instead of fixing it right and repairing the frame mount and replacing the bent transfer case arms, it appears the broken and torn frame mounts were welded (and gusseted)
without being straightened out and new holes drilled so everything would bolt together.
another example is the rear shock mounts. i have NO idea why anybody would do this, but at some point the entire center section of the shock crossmember was cut out. same thing with the transmission crossmember, some yahoo with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel thought he'd be all jesse james and cut off one complete side of it... why? its a damn crossmember for a reason... how about putting a new set of freaking brake pads on the thing, or squirting some grease into the driveshaft splines...
it'll be cool though, all the stuff is there, just half of it needs fixed... i should stop bitchin about it...

I feel your pain, Hoop, and more than anything, the sting of getting burned. However, I've seen the build of the TA, and the starts of what you were doing with the red Sammy. I have no doubt that you'll take this dog and make her bark again. Only this time I'm looking forward to you embracing this Sammy as you did the TA and make her all that she can be and then some. Make her something that we'll all be proud of, let alone something that you'll not soon part with.
The next time you look at another woman, be sure to check her fluids, ok?

Kinda like my ranger...buddy of mine built it. When it came time to sell it I couldn't validate a 'toy' truck being self employed with a new family and life to start so another guy that actually worked for me bought it, drove the snot out of it,sold it to a friend of his who never paid for it then I ended up with it...yeah the principal is the same

does anybody know where i should look for pieces of scrap metal?
i'm just wanting some little pieces of angle iron & flat iron, and some boxed steel to plate the frame and then make some mounts.
this is one of those times where it suuuuhucks to live in a city. back in kansas pert near everybody had the huge pile of scrap iron out behind the barn or wherever... here there are people who do nothing all day but drive around looking for it and stacking it sky high in the back of their clapped out pickup truck with the ghetto racks.
scr8p, think you could send me some.

Hoopty,
well that remark kinda resembles the other side of the state

...got a barn and got a packrat LHS owner's trailer full of stuff and overflowing with bits and pieces of iron from his kit car builds. What kinda sizes and pieces you lookin for...if you wanna drop a pm that would work too.

the whole cuttin' metal and welding important things is new to me, but i know if i just got the right scrap i could pull it off.
theres a welding shop i go to for the brazing stuff i make the tubers with, i'll stop by there friday and see if they can help me out. i was thinking how i could actually take 2 of the spare tire mounts that go on the tailgate, and maybe make a pretty cool little mount out of those.
dont ask me why i have 2 spare tire mounts... but i do.
klavy i'll shoot ya a pm.
