I've still got 1 classic sealed NIB, with no intention to build any time soon

I've got two, NIB. Sold one already. I thought it would be the greatest thing to have one re-re built and a vintage runner (which I'm still working on), but I haven't been bitten by the need to assemble a Classic. Then the World's car re-re happened, and its pretty much everything I'd want on a runner (all the quibbles and niggly little things notwithstanding...that's part of the fun of it). So I'm probably going to sell one of the remaining Classic kits, might open up one eventually and put it together. I'm also building a vintage RC10T for my brother to bash with in his new backyard, so I've got a lot on the bench.

Now all the fuss has died down do you guys think it would have been better for AE to have done this whole re-re thing differently?

I would have felt a hell of a lot better if this was released as a true premium and rare product: Made in the USA 100%. Made in real limited edition - 1000 units with each chassis bearing a stamped individual number. Even better QC than the original or at least identical. Priced at least twice as much - making it more collectible, much higher quality, less damaging to the original values, allowing true USA manufacture, just a way cooler product with real authenticity. AE would have made a similar amount of money and generated the same publicity. Plus the old school fans and collectors would not have been burned. So pretty much the opposite of what AE did.

Yep not a bad idea, as always it has it's pros and cons,
Pros are that it's rare, valuable, instant classic. Cons are that the general public will not be able to enjoy some one with deep pockets will corner the market leading to unrealistic pricing.
Best bet would be for AE to release a limited edition version or 1 of Masamis stealths in limited quantities.
Now for that I would pay top dollar

It worked out very well. No more stupid prices for the average guy looking to buy wheels tires rear arm mounts stealth parts etc. The prices that were being paid for plastic 'toy' parts was getting stupid. Associated sold all of the classics they made...and now they can make further profit with replacement parts. Now they just need to mold white team arms. I am disappointed to hear of all the QC problems, those problems should not have happened.

original tamiya, made in japan. re-release tamiya, made in japan. collectors pissed off.

original kyosho, made in japan. re-release kyosho, made in japan. collectors pissed off.

original rc10, made in the USA. re-release rc10, made in the USA? guys would still be pissed off.

Where it is made is a principle when it comes to an iconic item famous for being American. Would I care if it were a fax machine? No.

Besides it has been proved the quality has now suffered because of cutting costs abroad. This has cheapened the brand.

Indeed. That was also embarrassing for AE. However the problems were not just patchy tubs as far as I recall.

Precisely why it should have been a premium product with proper QC from the very beginning. Not a cut price bodge job. They made a call and that is fair enough. Just not the route I would have taken myself. For some price is much more important than quality, heritage, authenticity or collect ability. Each to their own

Just another toy car really. NONE of the originals were/are too notch in the QC department either. Still a toy car, not a fine machined piece of uber rareness.
I personally think the rere looks very nice. All the parts are very well made and fit together pretty well. Not an exact copy though intended as such.

Also, if the kits were super expensive and ultra high-quality, then the parts would have been too. That might be an issue for those who just want arm mounts, bellcranks, tires, etc. at reasonable cost.

Since when does collectible and rare mean the same thing?? I get so annoyed by this, why shouldn't anyone who wants these cars be able to have them without having to be a millionaire? "You're not better than me if you've got something that I or others don't"

As has been said so many times by so many people, an original is always an original, and a re-re is always a re-re.

I know my re-re Frog is a re-re, but it represents the first hobby grade RC car that I wanted as a kid which I never got, so I was over the moon to be able to build one from the box as I did back then when I eventually got my Fox.
