bolink's funco double seater might be nicer but on the same lines: I think a wider body will work better with the fat front and rear tires

Not sure about the Funco. Hmmmmmm.
I like the look of the RPS 834b body. That thing is like a brick. Don't know how it would look with the back cut off or mutilated to fit around the cage.

Thanks for the compliments.

Not much of an update but here you go.

Finally sorted the chain out. Made a cutout in the gearbox for the chain to pass through. I'll be running a shorter lipo in parallel with the chain, so no worries about the chain having to move over the battery.

While waiting for the front gearbox materials to arrive I chopped up the rear box a little.

I read about this mod years ago and wanted to try it. Epoxied two .016" thick cover plates over the exposed internal gears and slotted the original motor plate. Now it's got a much greater range of ratios.

I'll be adding a four point rear cage to protect the motor in case of rear enders. If the motor plate does get broken I can mill the side of the box and add a removable motor plate.
I would love one of these boxes

Thanks Robertoro. I would like to see Tamiya's take on a 4WD Sand Scorcher. Just as long as they don't throw the beetle shell on a TT02B.

Bearrickster, if you've got a spare rerelease gearbox lying around you should have a go at modifying it. I used a Dremel and drill press with Dremel cut off wheels, sanding drums and a couple of files, then finished up with various grades of sandpaper and steel wool. The cast alloy is really easy to cut into.

Made battery cradles from the same Acetal/Delrin as the front gearbox. I'll be running two Turnigy 2200mah 2s lipos in parallel in a saddle pack configuration. I still have to make two G10 battery straps to retain them. Also made two single rail nerf bars to add protection for the lipos.

Overall view.

Slowly getting there. :D

Here's another mod from the early days of racing if you didn't have RCH or Thorp ball cups.

The zip tie passes through both arms and helps stop the bottom ball stud separating from its ball cup as it wears out or after hard landings.

Thanks. It'll be some time later this year.

Finished making a new steering setup today. I wasn't 100% happy with the RC10 steering. I noticed while pushing the buggy in circles on the kitchen floor that the ackerman wasn't quite right. I could feel a lot of rolling resistance as the inner wheel was at full lock and the outer wheel moved only a few degrees. The RC10 steering needs to be a lot further forwards to make proper use of it's design. Which is impossible as there's a gearbox in front of it. What to do? I had a look at A&L's steering and whipped out the G10.

The bellcranks are slightly longer than the previous setup. Which moves the steering ballstuds 3.5mm further forwards giving a much better degree of ackerman during turns.

The chain still clears the new steering.

The end result: WOO HOO! :D

Thanks fellas. :D
I've trial fitted the electrics.
  • Power HD low profile servo
  • Hobbywing Quicrun ESC
  • Turnigy 2S lipos in parallel
  • Spektrum receiver
  • Tamiya GT tuned 25T motor

I've added a lower chain guard which bolts to the rear gearbox and protects the left hand battery wires from being sawn in half.
The receiver sits above the motor and battery wires on its own shelf.

Not much more to go now. I can't wait to run this.

Thanks Tiger.

As a matter of interest I chucked the chassis with a painted body from my 2WD on the scales just to see the damage.
Results are 1827g or 4lb 1/4oz.

Not too bad I reckon.
