You should not have a problem with any standard length and form factor Lipo pack installed in the normal spot. The chassis has plenty of clearance.

Shorty packs will not fit as the terminals can short on the chassis… unless…

Thank you for the quick reply.

The Optima and Tomahawk have less clearance than i anticipated.
3 -5,000 mah packs in hard case had me opening the cases and removing the inner foam protection and then trim the hard case to gain 3mm.

The Ultima i just ordered

To run a shorty in the spot where the normal full stick pack sits, could you narrow up the top deck in the battery area and bring inwards the screw holes that the plastic brackets bolt to, thus moving the battery straps inwards? i haven't got my car yet so im only speculating from afar. Even if the battery was a little to one side so the terminals wouldn't short on the chassis, you could put it to the right to offset the motor a bit

While i'm here guys, any other tips on the car? i'm picking it up to go vintage racing, i've heard they're a bit on the heavy side, so i was thinking titanium screws might help as it looks like theres a lot of screws holding it together and maybe some milling of the motor plate which looked fairly thick

Cheers

No need for that - the Ultima isn´t heavier than it´s competitors. You might even need to add weight to keep it legal.
Follow the shortest route on the track and don´t hit anything - You´ll finish 1st or 2nd :D
Proper tuning is tires, battery placement, steering, shock absorption, camber-caster-toe angles etc.

Good luck racing - I´m in it for the hotdogs and tire kicking

My solution for shorty batteries is in prototype stage (printing).
Once tested I'll put it on shapeways.
Here's an early design. The final one looks a lot different but I have no picture on hand.

The first prototype print of the shorty holders came in yesterday.
I didn't have time to mount it yet, but you get the idea.
Top of pic is the frontside of the car. The hinge and retainer bolts go in from the bottom. That way you can unlock the retainer without that bolt falling out. Plus, it keeps the top nice and clean of bolt heads.

And this is the full kit:

Does it make any difference to change the bushing and bearing in the steering to a flanged and rubber shielded bearing?

After bidding on a few RC10's on Ebay I realized they are going for more than what I can pay and still be able to afford parts that need to be replaced. I bit the bullet and went with my original plan and placed my order for an Ultima from Tower. They have a $40 coupon right now that lasts until Tuesday.

Hopefully I will be able to get some RC money together after the Covid crisis so I can get an RC10 at a reasonable price. It's definitely high on my "I NEED it" list :D

Does anyone know what size the wheels are? I'm trying to look at options for different tires.

I waited all day for my kit to be delivered and 10 minutes ago Fedex changed the delivery date to tomorrow  Don't they know that my toy car is the most important package they have!
