Two VHS tapes of R/C stuff just sold on eBay I was contemplating buying. I also have a lot of home videos on VHS as well so I looked into what it would cost to digitize the format, and was surprised the equipment would cost hundreds.
Everyone I knew back in the day had VHS except for one friend with a weird family who had Betamax. I just wanted to add that.

Bozo was just slightly before my time. I know of him, but his program was no longer on.

You callin' me old??

It was on WGN before school. Kids would win a prize based on how many buckets they could land a ping pong ball in. If you made it to the last one you won a bike. A Schwinn if I remember correctly. I think it may have even been compliments of a local bike shop in Chicago, but it's cloudy. I was always convinced those kids sucked and I could do better.

I had a client, maybe 10 years back, that bought a new VCR but couldn't get it to record. Turns out that the entertainment industry pushed for copyright protection and ended the era of being able to record with a VCR, which turned them into players only, or VCP.

It's weird being the same age as old people, right?!?!?!
I wonder if Bozo was more of a local program than national.

I believe so. Based out of Chicago and available on WGN if you had cable.

This reminded me that we used to put a tiny piece of duct tape over the hole on the back of a music cassette so we could record over whatever was on it. We would record rock songs from the radio over whatever crap was already on the cassette.

I was neither in Chicago nor had cable back in the day. In fact, I didn't have cable until around the mid-00's when my roommate upgraded from phone line to cable internet.
FWIW, the furthest east I've ever been is the Black Hills on a family vacation when I was pre-teens. Made the trip in a passenger van converted into an RV. This was back in the days before RV's really existed, or at least were affordable enough for the average family to have. Cramped ride for a family of 5, but it's what we had and we made do.

We did this with any storage device back in the day, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, floppy discs.
