To help elaborate:

The big bores are 12mm and the V2's are 10mm. Big bores offer a more plush ride because the shock shaft makes up a smaller percentage of the oil volume displaced when compressed (which can reduce the 'pack' feel). Additionally, since the oil volume is much higher and given the same amount of air in the shock (because it's emulsion), there will be less cavitation and shocks will stay more consistent. Also, the larger oil volume makes them less susceptible to changing viscosity due to heat build up.

The big bore springs are much better because they are simply put 'better designed', particularly when compared to the rear springs. The old rear springs were too long given their diameter and as a result they become 'unstable' and buckle. When the spring buckled with small bore springs they would rub on the shock body which causes additional resistance and an unintended side load to the shock.

It is pretty amazing now days building up a new B5 shock and comparing it to the RC10 shocks, the difference in how free and smooth the new shocks are is amazing. We've certainly come a long ways!!

I'm tempted. Refilling all the oil that left my bottom loaders has become normal maintenance between heats.

if you ever went from thinking an SRB or Kyosho Scorpion shock was the greatest thing possible to an original RC-10 shock, then you'll know how far Associated took shock design at the time.

little ot but i noticed a HUGE change in handling when i put hot bodies d8 shocks on my… slash4x4…

gotta have something to do between heats.... since i no longer have to clean my comm and brushes

I never had problems with ae's bottom load shocks. Losi on the other hand was brutal back in the day.

85edinger, maybe it's time for some top loaders.
I got some .56's you can try if you want to stay true to your short arm car. You'll have to source some rears though.

I really appreciate the offer on the top loaders, I'll think about it. In the meantime, maybe I'll try rebuilding the old ones to stop the leaking.
My car's no longer a short arm btw. I basically converted it to a CE (but still with. 56 front shocks) do it could keep up at my local track. The car is great, I'm still the limiting factor.
Now that the Worlds is out though, I'm tempted to scrape together some money and buy one. Then I could put the original parts back on my short arm, buy some re-re tires, and run it in Classic. I have enough money saved, and it's very tempting.

I put big bores on my RC10... They look right at home on there! And if I ran V2's, they would also get Big Bore springs adapted on them. Talk about rubbing springs! Not a fan of having to sand them to make them work semi right. I would run older kyosho springs before that happened.

I have a spare set of big bores and decided if I don't use them I will use big bore springs on the V2's.

I have several sets of those of the T2 mounts.... They rarely (If ever) break. I have never broken one anyway. so I'm good for a long while. But I still buy them when I see them.

Do the T2 versions not have the second set of holes for extending the wheel base?
