If the ones on the Procat are the same I can sort you out with those measurements as mine are off the car.

Thanks Peakey, yes I don't see why they would be any different.

Fantastic! Thanks very much - the wonders of the internet and people you've never met help keep these cars in fine fettle. :)

More questions! This time for anyone who is familiar with the Wasp slipper:

The main body of the slipper fits snugly over the nylon layshaft. The layshaft has a hole for a pin which would normally hold the nylon adaptor which the spurs is screwed to, but the slipper body has an M3 threaded hole, suggesting either opening up the layshaft hole and running an M3 screw through the body and into the layshaft, or just using a grub screw.

I don't think there is enough space for a scew head so I am guessing that it's just a grub screw - but is that really secure enough?

Anybody know the answer?

Cheers,
Iain

See if this helps if I remember it is a grub screw I should really know I've got one on mine :?

Hmmm...nothing in there unfortunately about how it mounts to the layshaft. I'm fairly sure it must be just a grub screw, but I'm surprised there weren't issues with mangled layshafts if that is the case.

OK, time for a few updates about not a great deal of progress...

I've struggled with getting the ball joints to operate smoothly. The combination of barely used, but old parts seems to mean everything is overly stiff. I managed to tweak the wishbone joints well enough, but the actual ball cups for the steering and rear toe link were awful. Eventually I had to concede and fit one worn ball stud for each link which seems to have made the difference.

In a recent haul from Belgium I managed to acquire a NIP PCC alloy rear shock and wing mount. I immediately recognised this part and dug through my parts box and sure enough found a used one:
Image

It had a broken screw in the top which I managed to drill out, but ofcourse wrecked the thread, so now the wing mount retaining screws go in from underneath which is probably a good thing if I crash. I made the wire wing mount from the same guage wire as the standard XLS mount as the PBB item was far thicker and I suspect would just bend in a crash. The wing buttons are the otiginal XLS items:

Mounted on the car, it suddenly takes on a real sense of purpose!

I got around to fitting a long hardened steel screw through the lower wishbone mounts too - it's just long enough:

And got around to fitting the front shock mount brace:

While trial fitting the battery I realised the heatsink I was planning to use gets in the way of the stick pack installation, so I swapped it for a less attractive, but equally functional one. I also found some really smart velcro cable ties in Maplin, which with a little cut in them to slot around the chassis recess, they work perfectly! I used to run velcro straps on my XLS BITD, but they were wider and required a slot to be cut into the chassis. This gives me all of the nostalgia with none of the chassis vandalism. :)

Finally, as a backup in case I don't have time to get the Fat Cat shell sprayed before the revival meeting, I have picked this up from Ebay. I wonder if I'll get any bonus points if I run it...

I see you too have found luc's alladins cave in Belgium as that's where I got most of my parts from, me and daz of oople just cleared him out  so if you need another wing mount he has a couple.

Anyway the car is looking very nice how are you getting on with the roll bars

Now I've finally got the suspension moving freely, I'll mount up the shocks and hopefully make the tool bars tonight. I probably won't fit them yet as I want to play about with the steering to make enough space for the front roll bar to mount underneath the to deck.

Here's a close up showing how neatly the velcro straps fit around the underneath of the chassis:

Having taken delivery of the interim bodyset, I decided to carry on building around it just in case I can't get the new shell painted in time for the revival meet. So the undertray and wing are mounted and the shell has been offered up to check alignment. There is a bit of trimming required to get everything to fit properly, but it looks pretty good. :)

Also, tonight I rebuilt the Yokomo 11triple motor and bench tested along with the Top Missile 14quad. Slowly getting there. :)

I managed to get all the electrics checked, installed and bench tested over the weekend. During the week I need to do a bit of setup work and hopefully a couple more mods...
