There is no way I wouldn't be able to not open that box... Nice find, I was watching that one as well. Would love to see what's inside that box...(insert influential evil laugh here... ). I am also anxious to see you list of left over parts as well. Again very nice builds.

Just funnin', this is a cool thread, keep it going
ha ha !! Re-read my post laughing boy  - double bearing diff (as in differential)!!

LOLOL - thanks Adam - gave me a bit of panic then a bit of a laugh - its good to laugh about the hobby rather than take it so seriously all the time.

Thanks for your comments guys. I am really looking forward to running this one.

Cheers

psssst. . . retro (whispering quietly aside)
you listed "ball raced steering" twice in your list of upgrades
"Andy's fornt arms (not fitted yet), ball raced steering, RPM 5 link parts, ball raced steering and double bearing diff etc etc."

Comments, suggestions or questions are as always most welcome.

Great build thread, great humour and great classic vintage buggies Daz. I can't wait to see your runners at castle hill on Anzac day. :D

Thanks Jason,

Really looking forward to getting re-acquainted with a short wheelbase. LOVE my Pro - but need to get a SWB going to have the experience again.

Really looking forward to the ANZAC meeting, there are going to be some top cars and top drivers there for sure.

Hopefully getting close to finishing this car tonight!

Cheers

Daz I reckon the SWB will tear up Castle Hill. While it is possible to get the longer wheel base car around that track I think the SWB cars will come in to their own there.

I can't wait to see you running a mod in it with Harlow and the boyz. :D

Yep - I ran the SWB Optima Mid there- and it was KILLER! Definately a SWB friendly track for sure.

I just love driving the Pro, however I think with a bit of tinkering I can ge the 5 link and SWB working well. The fact that Michael will be running his as well will make it even better - two heads working on the set up will be better than just one.

Now - less typing and more restoring!!

LOL

Ok - getting near to the end of getting the SWB runner ready for action. While doing so I have remembered so many little things we used to do to these cars to make them perform better and also to make them easier to work on. One of the simpler, yet most effective mods, was to use a ball cup and washer instead of the "nut" as per kit for the front of the gear cover. It was always a pain trying to get to the nut, so we did this so that you could easily undo it with your fingers. This mod was even more handy with the cars fitted with the Hydradrive or slipper unit - as space was even more cramped then. Just superglue the washer to the end of the ball cup and the "mod" was done. Not performance enhancing - I know - but it makes quick maintenance a breeze.

I have started to install the electrics, I have fitted a Speed Passion Version 1.1 speedy to the car and also a 13.5 brushless. I dont want to go much harder than that with the motor side of things - as I want it to be driveable on the track.

I ended up fitting the car with the ball raced steering (no - not the double double type!! ;) ), RPM front uprights and carriers, Andy's front arms, Pro front shock tower with long stroke shocks, Trinity nerf bars, RPM 5 link balls and standoffs. Used the Losi low friction white driveshaft halves and low friction gearset. Also used the double bearing centre diff. I did not fit a slipper clutch - If I can find one before the next meeting (an A&L one would be the best), I will fit it.

I will post more pics of the chassis when I have completely finsished it. I will be doing a "TEAM" paintjob for both my SWB and Pro cars - Of course using Mr Lexans awesome SWB body. I am going to give Brandons shell a try for the Pro........its going to be a lot of fun seeing them go around.

I must say that I am really looking forward to running the car - shoudl be a cracker and quite responsive.
