Wide pan car or buggy conversion. Link in last post.
I looked at that catalog page again, and it caught my eye that AE referred to this body as a "stock car." In reality, the body is super widened with flat panels on the side and rear, exactly like a trans am car (why I bought it). The shape is really nothing like a stock car / Nascar of the time at all. Wonder why they didn't call it a trans am car? Not as popular with the American male as stock car racing?
Anywho, don't mean to continue to make this thread into a body thread. Although I think it makes sense. I think there are going to be a slew of DS builds soon, and many are going to want alternatives to the stock body.

The wide AE Lumina was the same way, and for the most part the Thunderbird. It's just the way they were shaping them.
The proportions started to get more accurate with the narrow cars/bodies.

My DS was delivered today along with the YZ10. I'm going to leave it in the box for awhile and keep any eye on all the cool builds you Fella's are working on. Given my passion for vintage VW's, I will be looking for a full body vw bug body that fits the wheelbase and width... if anyone has any ideas please let me know

Found this beetle body with a 260mm wb, I have no idea what the quality is like though.

Thank you for doing some research! This body looks like it will fit just right

I had been looking at the Tamaya VW bodies but they all appear to be 239mm wb. I will get one ordered up and get some firsthand info on quality. I had planned to keep this thing in the box but now I'm definitely going to build it

Itβs not wide enough for the DS bud we need minimum 200mm wide and thatβs pushing it.

It's 239mm wb for Tamiya Beetle body, or 12.3" for Beetle Baja crawler bodies, with very little in between. I didn't notice that auction was for a 190mm wide body, but never seen a beetle 1/10 body with a Touring wb before that one.
I remember there being a 1:1 Beetle body kit called a Mulholland, or something like that, whose wheels stuck out of the body pretty far, looked sweet.

KidAain, thanks for catching the width issue. I don't mind the tires pushing out a little bit, it will be a matter of getting the wheel opening trimmed enough for clearance without making it look weird.
GreenBarOn, I will definitely be going for low, wide, touring look on the bug build. In contrast I really like the way everything is nicely tucked in on your DS Double Cab build
I'm definitely not apposed tires not fitting inside the fenders as you can see from my 1:1 build

SWB Kyosho Fazer bodies are very close. WB technically is about 1.1mm different. WT, at least on this Camaro, is just where I would want it. Might be a little wide on a non-muscle car. I ordered up a STI body, so hopefully that will line up, but the wheels being wide in the rear is going to be an issue. May look through the fleet of Fazer and see what else would be more appropriate. The 240Z(s) are attractive.
I cut this body for another car, so the WB is more like 3mm here. Proper cutting for this chassis would have made the WB much closer.

Is this front bumper available in any other variant or form? I am trying to bring some white into this black on black foundation. I know function over form and all, but I hate all black chassis where everything looks the same (ie modern plastic cars)! Just saying, imagine this chassis with all white nylon.

I just need to throw a couple of white bits on the front and I will be okay. I can slap some carrier blocks and knuckles on there, but I don't think they will make the impact that a bumper would.

I don't think it's been mentioned but I've found another error with the manual.
Page 14, rear shock install, step 7 shows the shock bushing with the flange toward the tower/bulkhead:
The bushing should be reversed as explained in the original manual (page 32):
After installing one shock per the new manual, it seemed bound-up so I checked the original manual and found the error.
Hey AE, why don't you simply include the
original manual with your new kits? Your new manuals are crap.
