Creativity.......

i swear, i have a total lack of creativity when it comes to laying out paint schemes anymore. i stared at the yoke body for my 870c for what seemed like forever. usually, i can come up with something rather quick. but with this thing....... i had nothing. once something popped into my head, i wasted so much fine line tape laying something out, only to tear it back off shortly afterwards because i wasn't happy with it. i don't know what it is. maybe it's just the goofy friggin' lines of this body that's throwing me off. the more i look at it, it is pretty freakin' ugly.
i'm pretty much stuck with some of what i have taped off right now because of scratching into the body with my x-acto cutting the tape. i can't take it off now. so, hopfully i can make something from the abortion i started.

Been there... I find color choice to help out when everything looks "wrong". A few vintage decals can turn a iffy scheme around in a jam.
Post some pics.

Don't sweat it. Nearly every painting I do has a point during it's creation when I'm like "this is the ugliest POS I've ever seen". I mean, nearly every one. It's usually at the just past half way point. Actually, if that doesn't happen, I tend to think something must be wrong. Then, good things start happening again and it comes around. Being unhappy with your unfinished work is healthy I think.

I usually look at some other paint schemes to get inspiration. I don't generally copy anything but use them as a starting point for basic layout. Not that i'm any kind of paint guru.

Have you seen the paintscheme Keil used for their advertisement of the hotdog (same body) ?
There 're a couple others in the scan area, but that one is the best combo of easy and goodlooking for me.
And yes, it is a hard body; 'cause it's not symmetical maybe: one side pod is wider than the other

Interesting.
For me, I think its harder to pull off a wilder "newer" paint scheme on vintage cars. Ive seen some great paint, and I have a Std. "team" colors i use for my race cars, incl. my vintage. I does beg the question though.

well, this is what i came up with. i wasn't really looking for a
masami-ish color, but i liked it after i got done dumping some stuff together.
the 1/4" or so of black on the bottom will be trimmed off. once that's done, i think it'll look better.

Disregard what I said above: I was thinking of the protech body for the 870C
I much prefer the 834 body without the scoop and cadillac fins personally

Jay, give yourself some credit, the body looks pretty sweet to me!
I know what you mean about getting the mental block.... I have painted quite a few bodies in my time, and absolutely refuse to paint the same scheme twice. (unless it is an Ironman replica

)
I keep an eye out for other peoples color combos to see waht goes well together.. Not to copy the scheme, but more to deferentiate what works and what looks like barf.
If you can get your hands on a motorcross supply magazine, the new helmets have lots of nice designs to get inspiration from.

Looks good Scr8p. I have a tendency to do the 2 colors separated by a single stripe paint schemes, no creativity at all, but simple and relatively easy to do. Now that I know I can get quarts of createx paint for cheap instead of the $4 little fascolor bottles, everything will be neon yellow and blue.
