Hey all, I scored a decent MIP SP1 trans from the 'bay. Scrubbing it down, everything looks good.

I see that MIP's diff lube is still available at tower. So that's one down. What should I use for the thrust bearing, and the gear lube? Seems MIP had their own lube to put on the gears, but I can't find it anywhere.

thanks in advance for any tips! Also, it had no outdrives, I'm working on something that might be a cheap replacement for those parts, I will throw up some pics if it all works out.

I have an extra set of outdrives, I'd say you could use the AE black stealth grease for those little balls just like in the stealth. Pm me about outdrives if interested.

cool, thanks for the reply. any good ideas for the clinging lube for the gears? I know of some bike chain lube stuff, but I dunno if it will attack the plastic, as it's in a spray canister and has a solvent in order to dispense.

I was hoping to have some info(shipment) in the mail today, but I will let you know about the outdrives.....

I have the SP-42 gearbox lube kit but haven't opened it yet so I would say the oil looks like an ordinary oil not motor oil but some kind of a clear gear lube. The gear diff lube I can't see but I suspect it's similar to the AE diff lube so I'd probably use that. This package of gear lube doesn't come up very often so I'm kind of torn on whether to even open it .

yeah, i wouldn't open it....seems hard to get. I was going to try and email MIP to see what they suggest, but you have to call them, there is no email contact info.

I'm thinking about using whitelightning for the gears, it's a bike chain lube, that doesn't attract dirt, it's wax based. works fantastic on my bike chain without being greasy and oily. its really liquidy at first, as the solvent evaporates, it thickens up. should be just about perfect for a metal gear lube.

Bike chains turn slowly compared to the internal gears of and R/C car so I'm not sure whether this would be good. I watch it real close to see what the effects are on the insides of the gearbox.
