Here's a tricky question for any of you tech or auto members..I have a late model Mazda 6 that I imported from Japan new last November...now the radio system they have in them does not reach the FM range that we have in New Zealand so I had what's called a Band Expander installed. This is really common practice almost every Japanese car imported by the public needs one of these. It's a very simple devise that is wired directly into the aerial wire and to a live wire. Anyway here's my problem I have wornout/burnt out/broken/wrecked 4 of them in less than 6 months. Nobody can tell me why I have been to 5 different auto electricians and it has them all beat...so guys any ideas?

Have you run a separate earth to the exapnder, if it relies on the aerial earth and that's faulty, that would do it.
Also is the 12v feed switched with the ignition, it's probably best if it is or it will run 24/7.
Most radios have a feed at the back to run an electric aerial, that would be ideal.
