Getting back into R/C after about 10 years...

Hey guys,
I recently got the itch to persue a 1/12 scale pan car to tool around with just for fun. I snagged this vintage RC12e on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=150346352358
I haven't decided if I want to keep it period correct or update it. I'll probably update it, but I don't know. I'm definately updating the radio to a pistol grip. Where's the best place to fnd old parts for these vintage rides aside from ebay? Also, what happend to the selection of 12 scale bodies? Most all I can find are GTP bodies. I used to have a '34 Ford coupe on my old Bolink 12. One other question about wheels and tires, I know the old cars took two bolts for rear wheel but new wheels mount with three. Any way to convert the hubs on my 12e to accept 3 bolt wheels? Or are there new 2 bolt wheels out there? It should keep me busy for a while.
I have a good amont of R/C experiene, my Father and I used to race 1/10 scale electric dirt oval and some 10 and 12 scale electric carpet and pavement in the late 80's. About 10 years or so ago I put together an RC10T Team Truck just to mess around with. Not long after I sold that, I tried my hand at nitro with a used HPI 4wd on road. I sold that some time back. So yea it's been a little while since I've been in the game. Some new fangled technology to wrap my head around. I'll be lucky if I can remember some of the old stuff, lol.

welcome to the board.
for wheels on a 2-bolt car there are a couple options.
http://www.tm-rc-racingcomponents.com/mach-2%20FrameSet11.htm specifically state that they will fit 2 or 3 hole hubs
http://rc4less.com/1/12_RC4LESS_Pan_Car_Foam_Tires/c2/index.html has a 6-hole mounting pattern, so I think they should fit either 2 or 3 bolt hubs

Thanks for the links, aconsola. I like the design of the rc4less wheels, but yuk, why orange. Maybe I'll get 'em and dye them.

Those wheels do not fit the old diff side. the old diff in the 12E,12I and 12L needs the original wheels. The TM wheels do not have the correct holes for the old hub to mount into on the diff side. I found all this out when I was find tires fro my 12I project.

if it doesn't have the diff, they should work though, right? my 12e doesn't have the diff (solid axle), and has trc zr-1 rims on it.

Yep they should work fine on the solid axle cars. WoW no diff you really do have an oldie

I have some original diff kits if you need one.

.
ya, it's a little tricky putting the power down out of the corners.

but then i'd have to look for original wheels to make it work. it's a viscious cycle.

Thanks for the welcomes, guys. The car shipped from Cali yesterday, I can't wait to get it. One question for the vintage guys, is that top radio tray original? I have a 12e diagram from the internet and it's shaped different.

In my opinion it is not original, the 12e originally came with a white kydex radio tray. However at sometime AE came out with a replacement #3708 which is fiberglass but is the same outline as the original but with cutouts for the micro servos like you have. I have one nip #3708, the original part # 3710 had no cutouts and #3709 had cutouts for medium size servos.. There was also a special weightsaver radio tray #3706 but it also does not resemble the one on your 12e. If you look in the on-road part of the forum you will find pictures of some of these sweet little restored cars. Especially check out the one templeofspeed rescued and brought back to life it is a great example.

Hello and welcome to RC10talk. I know you do not have access to the buy trade forum yet, but I do have some 12th scale wheels NIP, two bolt type (front and rear) and would love to see you restore this car back to it's glory. If you don't resell the wheels on ebay I'll sell them to you at original AE price plus shipping. Send a PM if intrested.
Part # are Rear Wheels 3610 and Front Wheels 3650.
Here are some pictures of my 12th scale with the same wheels.

Thanks qballll, I'll keep that in mind. I got to wait and see what I'm working with. I may try the rc4less rims if the car has a solid axle and no diff. I don't suppose I could swap out the rear axle assy for a 12l3 or 12l4 diff? I can't tell much from pictures and drawings wether a hub only transplant is possible.
