been doing the old school masking tape painting bodies . or should i say trying to paint bodies. tried using parma liqiud mask and it just turns into a rubbery mess that won't peel where i cut the lines. what am i doing wrong? says to brush on a few layers let dry cut an peel. it dries ok but when i go to peel it off it just flakes off .

I used a liquid mask on my grandson's rc10 body and didn't have that problem but I used a Bob Dively brand. I think it worked great on the windows but large area's I will mask off with tape and paper (like the the side tanks) next time.

I've used both the Parma and the Bob Dively mask. The only thing the parma is good for is habitating the bottom of your nearest trashcan.

Dively works really well. Put 4-5 coats on for the easiest removal. I've found that Dively's doesn't like heat too well, so if you are used to using a blow dryer after painting coats, skip that. Makes it harder to peel off later.

I tried using the Parma stuff several years ago and it was terrible. Tape is easier and cleaner.

I have used many different brands, and yes, the Dively stuff is the best, but the Parma mask works fine, too. I use a 1" foam paint brush to paint the layers on the body, then dry with a hairdrier or a heat gun on low. Once dry, apply another coat. I usually do 3 or 4 coats, and sometimes more. The fewer coats, the harder the stuff is to work with.

It's not my favorite masking to use, but you can do things with it that you can't do with too many other things.

This is a 2-color paint job (technically one color, using bright red then a few drops of candy purple in the red to darken the borders), using only LM and hand cutting the pattern with a #11 Xacto. It may not look it, but this was one of the single most difficult bodies I have painted in many, many years.

Not to blow smoke up Doug's you know what, but I don't recall seeing anything he has painted that I don't like.

I like the pattern it looks a lot like fern shoots..we have a lot of ferns and stuff on national icons

Bob Divley makes spray on liquid mask now, the LHS got 5 cans in and they were gone in about 30 minutes!!

thanks for all the posts and pics. I purchesd the Bob Dively brush on and a B3 body from tower .Its just going take some practice and a steady hand with the X-acto .

Maybe it wasn't Bob Divley, but he definately had some spray on liquid mask. I went to the track today but forgot to ask him about it, I'm going tomorrow for some more track time. I'll try to remember to ask him about it and post here when I get home. I can't wait to get into the new house so I can start painting again.

I bought a new tip and needle for my Paasche 2 years ago and haven't even taken them out of the bags. I need to buy an air compressor for the garage too.
