Help with my YZ-10 restoration please!

So I was searching on craigslist and found a $60 dollar gem! The YZ-10 I have always been looking for! I plan to restore it into a shelf queen and I'm going to go through my old RC Car Action magazines to check period correct parts/paint schemes/etc.

This is where you guys come in. I have a lot of experiece with RC10's but none with a YZ10. Plain and simple I need some parts, mainly a period correct body/wing and some gold rear shocks (the fronts are almost brand new!) I also need some small things like the stock rear arms (it has RPM's on it now) perhaps some new tires, etc.

Where can I get parts? Yokomo USA? E-bay? I see there are repo body's on ebay but which is the right one? Can I use a different body?

So what I have is a VERY clean roller, another disassembled car (70%, missing shocks and a few small parts) and a ton of NIP parts. I would be willing to make trades on the parts for the parts I need. I will post up all the uneeded parts in the BST soon.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated as this is by far my favorite RC car of all time. Thanks again guys!

great start.

I like the truck wheels: must be some aftermarket conversion!
The flatter style 2.2 wheels look like ARP's?

All those deep offset wheels are worth a descent penny too, but this is not the trade section, so better edit the post a bit and put the trade offer in the BST

mrlexan may still have some stock left of his reproduction of the 870C body

I did post up in the trade section for the spare parts

The 2.2 wheels are trinity but their in pretty bad shape. I have no idea on the truck wheels but they're in pretty good shape along with the spoked dish rims.

I'll have to talk to MrLexan about the body, I see he has some for sale on e-bay and I even think one is the correct body for this model.

Nice find, but I think you should run it a few times. Ebay is a good place to start for parts a good tip is to actually visit international ebay site such as Germany, Netherlands etc as the worldwide search is not that good.

With regard to the shocks you will need the 1.02 stroke bodies and shafts, there is actually one shock body on ebay as of writing. Failing that i have a pair of slightly later teflon bodies i can let go with external seals and the smaller cap size.

Just got a body from MrLexan so that part is all good. Going to paint it up blue like the old add in RC Car Action. Now to find a wing and mounts.

I'm hoping to make one into a shelf queen and I might just have enough parts left over to consider finishing the other one as a basher. Right now though I'm going to concentrate on getting the first one finished.

Great! I have a painter lined up to do the replica paint job for me. Now I have to dig though my old decal sheets and see what I'm missing there. Just a few more small things and the restoration will start. Thanks again for everyone's advice and help with parts I appreciate it!

Another question. I have RPM rear arms that look to be new, I do however have the stock arms that I'm planning to put on for the restoration. However the RPM's look to be a little longer than stock, thus making me think I need to get shorter CVD's? I have a couple spare CVD's but would like to know before I start tearing this down.

It looks like the RPM arms are of similar length as the 91-92 YZ-10 while your front arms are the from an 870 C.
( Actually it even looks like the 870C arms upfront are the original 870 C rears; often done to widen the front)

I actually figured out the arms, I had new front and rear. However it has RPM hubs in the back that only work with RPM rear arms so I had to install those instead. Found some Bud's wing mounts and everything else was pretty easy

I got some yokomo shocks last night after winning another one on e-bay. Anyone know how rare the RPM rear bulkhead is?

The RPM rear bulkhead is getting pretty rare...I still see them on ebay every once in a while.

What I really like about them is the belt tensioner feature. It really helps...especially when you're using an older belt (that's stretched slightly) or a really strong motor.

Roger

The Jammin Jay HAsley graphite top deck is pretty rare also, is it not? I also have the RPM rear arms and they are designed for the works '91 but even on the 91/92 they are still a pain to get the width right - I could only get them to work using the works 95 universals, they may work with the yz10 wide front conversion kit?

Well after tracking a few e-bay auctions I got it done! Found some decent Yoke shocks and a few other items I needed to get it done. Now to just get Mr Lexan's repro shell painted
