I am in the process of restoring a tq10 that I acquired and I need some suggestions. The car and manual I have is from one of the later models. Should I build it like a late model (long arms, turnbuckles, black motor plate) or should I build it like and early model (short arms, threaded rod, gold motor plate)? The other question I have is which version rear bulkhead should I use? Also does anyone know where I can find the proper front tires and rims? Thanks, Rick

i'd build it the way it's supposed to be. all tq10's (early or late) had a black motor plate, but to be correct, it should be for a 6 gear trans only. as for the bulkhead, that will depend on which version your gonna build. with the short arms, it'd be the one with the long wing tube. wide front arms, it would be the short wing tube bulkhead, but not the newer "worlds" style.

the rims will be a lot easier to find than the original kit tires. those are hard to come by.

And--as memory serves me from Scr8p's earlier posts--the chassis itself would dictate the "correctness" of the build--the chassis that is drilled for the alum motor saver in the rear would be a later, widetrack version, no holes-short front arms

ya, the early tq10's didn't have the holes at the back for the motor guard. the holes down the sides of the chassis aren't countersunk, neither. the late (wide arm) chassis had both.

Thanks for your help the chassis does have the holes. Did it come with the saver installed? So since i am going with the "late" model i guess it should have turnbuckles correct?

oh ya? that'd good to know. i've never seen one like that before.

and since i know you bought the kit new, we can trust it 100%.

What's funny is I was walking out the door after posting this and the mail lady was waiting for me with a present and inside was another short arm tq10 and it also has the rear holes and countersunk side holes. So maybe they are late production short arms? How long was the TQ10 made for? 2 years?

My archive of ebaY TQ10's does definitely show a few short-arm/non-turnbuckle cars with the motor guard holes and full side countersinking...It also shows a few long arm cars with TQ70 front tires instead of the typical TQ76's. Mine is a pretty beat late version, but had TQ20/TQ70's as delivered to me. Overall condition indicated that the tires were original, but I still slapped a set of TQ76's on the front...

Mine is the short-arm version - chassis has countersunk holes sides and rear, no turnbuckles and the short wing tube rear bulkhead.

Well i finally stopped looking at all my parts and decided to actually start putting something together. I've got the back end done except for rebuilding the shocks and i just can't bring myself to put the used white spur gear i have on it. I also started using all stainless steel hardware on all my "collection" cars so the hardware will not get all rusty over time. I know it's not "factory" but it keeps the hardware looking good over time. I will start the front end this weekend.

Cool, keep us posted.--how "bad" is the spur??

Got another question. does the short arm version car us the in-line front axles or the trailing?
